I have a very large living room, entrance to room is off of hallway. To one side is a bank of windows, across the room is on the complete opposite side of windows is a fire place flanked by two etergeries. Opposite wall of hallway entrance into room is a divider made of dry wall with opening and and opening into kitchen on one side and to dining on other side. I need help placing one sofa, 2 matching wing back chairs and one upholstered side chair. The room is approximately 15 x 18, very high ceilings, hardwood with area rug. I have several side tables and a large trunk as a coffee table and an antique secretary desk.

There are various ways to arrange living rooms. Photos of your room are not supplied. You can either move the furniture here and there to see what pleases you or you can make a 1/4 inch graph of room, windows, fireplace etc & furniture. Here is one idea, the etageres would be where the plants are

Who makes the rug? Is it a sisal? Did the designer add the trim (binding)? Beautiful room!

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Kristy Woodson Harvey and Beth Woodson added this to Textiles for Traditional Living Rooms
6. Add some shine and shimmer. Shine is an often-overlooked design element. The bright, glossy golds in this room contrast beautifully with the matte surfaces. The more shimmering materials are used, the more glamorous a room will feel. On the other hand, using fewer elements with shine makes the room feel more casual.

Similarly, you might have to trade in that huge fresh evergreen tree that you look forward to every year for a slightly smaller version. Large trees and decorations, while festive, may make the room look smaller. Choose an oversized tree only if you have a really large room.
