Range hood: Wight framed out a range hood with two-by-fours and drywall and coated it in primer stucco. He says this hood treatment is one of his signature pieces that he’s done in many homes. The stucco range hood disguises a top-of-the-line hood insert and has a smooth texture like Venetian plaster, Wight says. Range hood insert: Vent-A-Hood; see more range hoods

Did you use an unusual material? Jacob Wight of design-build firm Syltebo Wight Homes framed a range hood with two-by-fours and drywall and coated it in primer stucco in this kitchen in his personal home. The stucco hood encloses a Vent-A-Hood range insert. Have you found a way to use materials not traditionally thought of for a range hood? Please tell us your stories and share your best photos in the Comments.

Here’s another example of this concept, in the personal kitchen of Jacob Wight of the design-build firm Syltebo Wight Homes. Here, Wight framed a range hood from two-by-fours and drywall, and coated it with primer stucco — a signature treatment he’s done in a number of homes. The stucco has a texture like Venetian plaster, he says. Inside, it hides a Vent-A-Hood insert that takes care of the blowing. Read more about this kitchen
