1. Avoid OversaturationTry not to use just a single color in a room. “A color can take the spotlight, of course,” Pribell says. “But there needs to be balance. Add elements in a complementary color, or layer the room with offshoots of the dominant color but in different shades, hues, patterns or textures. If you’re only hitting one note, it becomes boring and off-putting very quickly.” When a Professors’ Row client expressed interest in painting her living room a warm color, Pribell knew she would have to choose a “vibrant hue to highlight her cherished historic painting while keeping it modern,” she says. “After I found that vibrant wall color, I balanced it with deeper tones of pinks and purples in the pillows, blanket and chairs.” See more of this project
