What a nice flooring work that was done in that house. It looks somewhat like the floor plan that my father was talking to me about. He showed me his plan and brought up the conversation about redoing his floors. http://www.thetilesmith.com/

We do not have any information on the exact carpet that the homeowner selected for this stairway. A similar style would be cooper by Stanton Carpets: http://www.stantoncarpet.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=555&SKUID=2501

We would suggest using a high quality natural fiber carpet with a low pile for your stairs. A nice detail to add to the timeless look of your stairs would be the use of brass stair rods to hold the runner in place.

Unfortuantely we are unable to share plans of any of our custom designed homes. The design of this house was inspired by traditional English country architecture.

I too was very interested in the floor plan of this home, as it seems to flow really well. I understand you can't share a blueprint for a private residence, but can you offer any additional details about the general layout? I'm specifically interested in the location of the kitchen and dining room as it relates to the position of the living room (or rather, the room featured in this photo on the right). Thanks so much for your time!

I believe that this is hardwood planks which have been stained to look like tiles. By taping off areas and staining them darker than the field of the floor you can create this look. Cover it all with poly when you are done. Treat it like any other floor. An incredible foyer/stairhall.

Chalk lines were snapped then carefully taped off using Frogtape for a tight seal before the stain was applied to the white oak floor to form the checkerboard pattern. The preparation and application of the stain is quite painstaking, but the end result is an extremely a durable and beautiful floor finish.

What Houzz contributors are saying:

Shane D. Inman added this to Designer's Touch: 10 First-Class Foyers
5. Painted floor. If you're handy, painting a harlequin floor is as easy as using painter's tape and a measuring tape. Although simple, this look is sure to astound first-time guests.
Vanessa Brunner added this to Readers' Choice: The 10 Most Popular Entryways of 2012
3. Checkerboard hardwood in Pennsylvania. The stained checkerboard floor makes quite a statement in this home's entry. Most Houzzers saved this photo for flooring inspiration, but several were also struck by the long hallway's welcoming layout.

What Houzzers are commenting on:

Susan Page Daily added this to Kitchen
Love the archway.. hate the floor... probably too formal of a look over all
cezitz added this to Entryway
