It looks like ivory coast, or ivory beach granite to me. But just going by the picture. I love it too.

thank you for the information. seems yellow/golds and honey is the way we need to go for remodeling. one more question, what is tiled flooring? It is beautiful. We are getting creme bordeaux granite and it is very colorful and has a honey/peach in it along with about 9 -10 other colors. Have been trying to find the right backsplash and flooring? What a job, we have so much light and for some reason it seems that most tiles fade to blah. Thank you for your response.

It is a Travertine tile, which has a lot of voids and recesses. The grout fills the majority of the voids, however it isn't smooth. That being said, they aren't slippery either.

Since Travertine is a natural stone, it needs to be sealed after installation. Once the tile and grout are sealed, it's maintained the same as other tile floors. I'm sure your flooring showroom/contractor will have input, depending on whether it's rough or honed Travertine.

If it's properly sealed it should be very easy to take care of. My guy uses a 10 year sealer - swears I won't have to worry about it.
  • PRO
    Schnarr Craftsmen Inc
I would agree that a sealer is definitely required. Otherwise, I wouldn't consider travertine to be much more work to clean over other stone tiles. It's certainly not as easy as smooth ceramic, but not nearly the same look as well. The texture is one of the key features with travertine. The only advice I can give you regarding installation is to use a reputable installation company that will warrant their installation methods. I would be concerned if an installer is suggesting the 'easiest' method. How long will he stand behind any future cracking with his 'easy' method?

  • PRO

Tile manufacturers all have different names for the different colours, and since Travertine is a natural stone, the colour range will always vary. Be sure to purchase the amount of tile you need all at once, as colours can slightly vary month to month. I don't have the specific tile colour for this installation.

@Schnarr Craftsmen Inc, I think you have gone above and beyond in answering these questions graciously. Sometimes I'm worried that skilled professionals such as yourselves will stop posting your projects on Houzz because some of the questions are posted by people who clearly have not first bothered to see if you've already answered the same question previously, and other people berate you for not being able to provide information about aspects of the project you were not involved in. were can I buy the island as shown

  • bacarl
jobob, sorry for not respecting your question. I see a lot of inquiries on Houzz like "where can I buy such-and-such?" where the such-and-such refers to things that are obviously custom built and not simply something stocked at Home Depot. For instance, did you think you'd go to the store and buy a 12'x5' granite-topped island and bring it home in your pick-up truck? I just think it must be frustrating for building and design professionals like Schnarr Craftsmen to handle each and every question and I commend them for doing so patiently and tactfully.
  • jobob123
bacarl, I am just about ready to build my home and am here to get ideas and suggestions on were to contact building and design professionals and possibly bring them my business. Obviously Schnarr Craftsmen answered my question patiently because, they know that we are the customers and they are the professionals. They know that they are there to help and guide future clients on these matters. It is not your job to judge what is a nonsenical question. I am sure the professionals will not mind when I bring my business to them and purchase there goods and services. Most are here new to building or remodeling and are learning as they go along. It was just a question, move on....

what is the measurement of this island

  • PRO
    Schnarr Craftsmen Inc
I don't have the exact dimensions available at this time, but I can say the typical eating bar top is 12-14" wide. The overhang will be dependent on the supporting material. In this case we have a thick island gable to accommodate electrical receptacles on the working side of the island.

You'll have to consider if that will be a busy traffic area. In this situation it is the main traffic route from the front of the house to the rear yard, where a lot of time is spent. Therefore enough space is required to comfortably walk past the stools while someone is pushed out and away from the bar. The stools will require at least 2 feet from the bar when pushed out, and another minimum 2 feet of walking space behind.
    • llemay
Thanks - very helpful. I think we will have enough space :)!

It is tumbled Travertine marble in multiple sizes. It gets laid , sealed and then grouted. The grout, not only fills the joints but also the holes and pitting in the tile. Then it gets sealed again. Travertine also comes honed but then it is very shiny and slippery and more of a formal look.
