We gave this large entryway a dramatic look with bold colors and patterns. The pale yellow striped walls contrast enormously with the checkered floors but come together to create the classic Regency-inspired look we were going for. An elegant crystal chandelier, gold-framed wall decor, and a ceiling accents further accentuate the rococo style home - and this is just the beginning! Designed by Michelle Yorke Interiors who also serves Seattle as well as Seattle's Eastside suburbs from Mercer Island all the way through Cle Elum. When our clients purchased this gorgeous old rambling home in a leafy Seattle neighbourhood, they knew it would be their “forever” home. However it needed a lot of work! It had been remodeled over the years in ways that were now sadly dated, so our design process began with understanding the value of what was existing and worth keeping. We knew from the start that it was crucial to restore and respect the historic elements of the house. But the owners also wanted to introduce a very modern, clean element into the mix, creating an edgy blend of old and very new. Photo: Ed Sozinho

Maya designed that bench and, yes, I used a chalky blue for the detailing. This was so the family would have a place to store their boots — and also a place to sit down and pull them on. It has a little bit of a Swedish feel to it. Photographer: Lucas Allen

We chose two different shades of it for those wide, horizontal stripes railroading the length of the space. They really pull you into the apartment. We used a Venetian plaster technique to give the walls texture and substance. They help make the foyer feel like a space you want to be in, not just pass through. If the couple is having a dinner party with an overflow crowd, they could rent two round tables, cover them with pretty tablecloths, and line them up here. Photographer: Lucas Allen

This dramatic foyer is a show stopper. The yellow Venetian plaster creates interest and the different colored glass bowls on the wall bring an extra pop of color. Design: Wesley-Wayne Interiors Photo: Dan Piassick

The previously bare foyer also got a Feng Shui makeover. To welcome in more energy or "Chi" to the home, we brought in a brightly patterned flat weave rug, added a mirror with a carved wooden frame, and a modern lamp and fresh flowers. Photo: Andy Shelter
