How to Import Your Own Catalog of Items

Easily import your own catalog of items directly into Houzz Pro to save time when creating estimates/proposals, invoices, and more. In just a few minutes you can import hundreds of line items and save them in your library for future use.

Just upload your file of items, such as an Excel spreadsheet or CSV file, set the column mapping, and your items will quickly be imported to your My Items library, along with their pricing and anything other information you added.

Follow these steps to import your item catalog:

1. Open the My Items page, which can be found under the Library section of the Company menu in the left navigation. Click the Import button in the top right.

2. In the import window that opens, click to Download Template to download a .csv file with all of the available item fields.

3. Open the template and input your item data into the appropriate fields, or copy the template formatting on your own file to match.

Follow these tips for a successful import:

  • Only upload Excel or .csv files
  • Each entry requires at least Name and Item Type
  • Each uploaded file supports a maximum of 500 entries

4. Save the completed file as .csv or Excel.

5. In the import screen, click "browse" and attach the file, or drag and drop the file into the box. If successful, you will see a message noting how many lines the system detected in your file. Click Next to start mapping your files columns to Houzz Pro fields.

6. Review the mappings to ensure your columns align with the correct Houzz Pro fields. Only the columns you map will be imported; you can choose Ignore in the dropdown to skip importing certain columns. Click Import when you are finished mapping.

7. If your file was imported successfully, you will see a confirmation of how many records were successful. Click Done to return to the My Items page.

You will see the new items appear in your library. You can click into each item to add or edit any details, including up to 5 images per product.

FAQ:

1. What does it mean if I received a warning message when importing my catalog?

To ensure an accurate import of your catalog, you may have received a warning message telling you what’s wrong so you can fix it and complete the import. Here are some errors you may encounter:

  • The file you tried to upload didn’t work - fix the errors described in the warning message (ex: empty file) and re-upload the file.
  • The file you tried to upload has already been imported - if you wish to duplicate the catalog in Houzz Pro, upload the file again. Otherwise, choose a new file to upload.
  • Some data may be missing so not all columns were mapped - fix the errors described in the warning message (ex: empty cells, invalid values, no columns were mapped to the Name column). For more information about each mapping error, download the Excel file linked in the warning message.

2. Do I need to map every column in my catalog?

The only required columns to map are the Name and Item Type columns. The rest are optional, but we strongly suggest filling out the Category for better organization and ease of locating items across Houzz Pro. If you don’t want to map a column, choose Ignore from the dropdown selection.

3. Can I add my own mapping fields?

You must map your columns to the fields provided in the mapping selection in Houzz Pro. These provided fields are tailored to the type of items you’re importing, such as products or services.
