How to Offset the Transaction Fee to Your Client

With Houzz Pro online payments, you have the ability to offset the transaction fee to your client (except in AU and the UK). With one click, you can choose whether you want to push the transaction fee to your client or absorb it yourself.

This will only apply for professionals who have online payments set up. Don't have online payments yet? No problem, this article will help you get started: How to Set Up Online Payments

Offset Transaction Fees at Company Level

If you would like to treat the transaction fee the same for every project, you can set up a default within your company settings.

Any changes made here will apply for all new projects moving forward — it will not automatically update already created projects. If you want to adjust transaction fee offset for a specific project, you can do this within the project itself (more below).

To start:

1. Find the Settings icon in your left navigation, and select Online Payments.

2. At the bottom of this page, you will see a box next to the phrase, "Offset processing fee to client."

Check the box if you would like all your clients to pay the transaction fees.

Uncheck the box if you would like your company to pay all the transaction fees.

In this section, you can also adjust the processing fee terminology in the dropdown above — you can either call it a Transaction Fee or a Convenience Fee. This is how it will show to clients when they go to pay online.

Your changes will automatically save.

Offset Transaction Fees at Project Level

If you want to customize the transaction fee preferences from a project level instead, you can do this too.

To start:

1. Find the Projects icon in the left navigation, and select the relevant project from your menu.

2. Once on the project overview page, click the pencil icon in the top left of the page to edit project details.

3. From here, scroll down to the bottom of the page. In the Online Payment Methods section, you will see a box next to the phrase, "Offset processing fee to client."

Check the box if you would like your client to pay the transaction fees for this project.

Uncheck the box if you would like your company to pay the transaction fees for this project.

Your changes will automatically save. As a reminder, changes made here will only impact that one project.

Client View of Transaction Fees

When your client opens an estimate, proposal, invoice, or other document to pay online, they will see a Pay Now option at the top of the document.

They will then be able to select to either pay by ACH/bank transfer or by credit card. Each payment method will break down the total transaction fee cost that your client will pay.
