How to set up your tax agency and filing frequency in QuickBooks Online

Since QuickBooks Online often uses the Automatic Sales Tax (AST) feature, you need to make sure to set up your sales tax agencies and filing frequency for each state in which you'll be invoicing, before syncing to Houzz Pro.

Follow these steps:

1. In the Houzz Pro set-up instructions, go to the “Taxes” page by clicking on the “Set up tax agency” button, or in QuickBooks Online, manually access the setting page by clicking on the “Taxes” page in the left-hand navigation panel.


2. If you don’t have any tax agencies set up, click on “Set up sales tax.”

3. Enter your business billing address and click “next.”

4. If you collect tax outside of the state entered in step number 3, click on “yes” and provide the additional details. Otherwise, click “no.”

5. After the tax agency has been set up, a window suggesting you create an invoice will appear. Close that window by clicking on the “X” button on the top right corner.

6. After that window has been closed, a dialog will appear asking you how often you file tax to the agencies added in the previous steps. Fill in the filing frequency and click “Save.”
