How to Use Schedule Templates

The Houzz Pro Schedule is a great way to keep your project or lead on track. It helps you make sure that your team, subcontractors and clients are all on the same page as the project progresses.

While you can easily create a custom schedule from scratch (read this article for details), you can also use a template. Even though every project has nuances and differences, many projects follow the same structure. Templates are a great way to save you time when you start a new project or lead.

For a schedule template, you can either use one of the preset templates we have in Houzz Pro, or you can create your own template from an existing schedule.

Use a Preset Template

Not sure where to start? No problem — we have several preset templates to choose from.

  • For general contractor/builder projects, you can select from Kitchen Remodel, Bathroom Remodel, or Residential New Build.
  • For designer projects, you can select from Interior Design (with construction elements), Interior Design (no construction), or Full Home Remodel.
  • For leads who haven't converted to a project yet, you can select Lead Management.

Preset templates show at the top of your schedule. Your custom templates will show up first, followed by the preset templates. To create your schedule, just select your preferred template, fill out the start date at the bottom of your screen, and click Apply Template. You can then adjust phases, items, tasks, dependencies, and milestones to suit that project or lead.

Create a Custom Template

If you have a specific schedule format that you typically use, you can easily save that as a template to save time moving forward.

It's simple: Once you have created your preferred schedule, you can click on the Actions button at the top of your screen. In that dropdown, you can choose Save as Template.

You will be given the option to name the template and choose what aspects of the schedule you want to apply to the template. You can toggle on or off Phases, Items, Tasks, Dependencies, and Milestones — turning the toggle off means that item will not save in your template.

Be sure to click Create once you're finished.

Use a Custom Template

If you want to use a custom template you've already created, create a new project/lead (or open an existing project/lead) in the left navigation, and select Schedule from the left-hand menu. You will see all of your saved templates on top of the schedule — your custom templates will always show first.

If you would like to delete or rename custom templates you've created, select the Manage Templates link.

When you select Custom Kitchen Remodel Template, you can then select the start date at the bottom of the screen. Go to the proposed start date and select Apply Template. Now, everything you have saved on your previous schedule will be applied to the new project/lead. You can then adjust phases, items, tasks, dependencies, and milestones to suit that schedule.
