Old Library vs. New Library Experience on Houzz Pro

We’ve redesigned the Houzz Pro Product Library for easier navigation and better organization so you can whip up estimates, proposals and more faster than ever.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Library name change: Your Parts List/Products & Services will now be called My Items
  • Editable categories: Edit and update your Categories, including those for existing Items
  • Simplified layout: Add items to documents with fewer clicks
  • New cost type: Builders can now group Materials & Labor on one line
  • Condensed items: Project Items, Library Items and Selection Items will all live under My Items

Let’s compare the old library experience to the new library experience to get you up to speed.

Access Product Library

Your library of parts (Builders) and products/services (Designers) is now called My Items across all features on the Houzz Pro platform. You can add and edit items by clicking on the Company icon in the left navigation, then clicking My Items under the Library section.

Builders

Your old library, known as Parts & Categories, is now split. You can find your Parts, along with your Assemblies, in the new My Items page, under the Library section. Categories has a separate entry point, which you can read more about in the next section.

My Items Library (Builders)

All Item types, including assemblies, material, labor — plus three new types: materials & labor (combined), products, and services — will be available at the top of your My Items page to quickly filter by clicking the relevant item type. You can also now customize your column preferences by clicking the Customize button in the top right. You can still import and create new items, just like the old experience.

Designers

Your old library, known as Products & Services, is now My Items. You can find your Products & Services, and your Groups, in the new My Items page, under the Library section. Categories has a separate entry point, which you can read more about in the next section.

My Items Library (Designers)

All Item types, including groups, products and services, will be available at the top of your My Items page to quickly filter by clicking the relevant type. You can also now customize your column preferences by clicking the Customize button in the top right. You can still import and create new items, just like the old experience.

Manage Categories

Categories has been separated from your Parts (Builders) and Products & Services (Designers) in the new library experience — find it in the Business Overview section under the Company icon. You can now edit and manage categories, including updating category naming and archiving categories.

You can also adjust existing item categories in-line on your My Items library page, which previously was not possible.

Financial Documents

Adding Items

When adding new items to a financial document, including estimates/proposals, invoices, change orders and purchase orders, you will no longer see the “Add Items” or "From Library" button. With the new library experience you will see a right panel where you can access My Items, which will include “In this Project” (previously Project Items) and “In My Library” (previously Library). You can easily click the item types across the top to quickly find an item, just like in your main My Items Library page.

New Cost Type (Builders Only)

To customize the cost experience for Builders, we've created a new combined "Material & Labor" cost type. Builders can now choose to either combine labor and material costs into one Unit Cost column (the new option) or separate labor and material into two individual columns (the original experience). Learn more about this update in How to Customize Your Cost Type in Estimates.

If you choose to customize your cost types and "Material & Labor" is selected for an item, a calculator will appear in the Unit Cost column where you can split the two costs as needed. If you enter one cost and do not split them, by default it will split 50/50.

Note: Quickbooks will reflect Material and Labor on separate lines if "Material & Labor" is the Type selected.

Mood Boards

In Mood Boards, your Project Items and Library are now merged under My Items in the right panel.

Selection Boards

On Selection Boards, your Project Items, Library and Selections Library are now found under My Items in the right panel. If you're using a product you've already added to a document or mood board, always be sure to choose from "In this Project" instead of choosing again from your library to prevent duplicates on the Selections Tracker.

Brand Catalogs (learn more below) are also now available in Selection Boards.

Selections Tracker

In your Selections Tracker, the Add button will be replaced with a right panel where you can access My Items and Brand Catalogs (learn more about brand catalogs below).

Brand Catalogs
