What’s in the Episode?
In his 34 years with Case Architects & Remodelers, Bill Millholland has helped the company evolve with the times, weather economic storms and grow to have a team of about 160. And Case, which has four offices in and around Washington, D.C., and is a 24-time Best of Houzz award winner, was actually founded in 1961 — so its business strategies can help any design or building firm looking to succeed over the long haul.
In this episode, Millholland talks about how having clearly documented processes can help make both clients and team members feel more comfortable at every stage of a project, and can even help win clients — especially nowadays, when “sales aren’t falling off trees anymore,” he says. “People are more cautious with spending.”
Many small design firm owners don’t have the time or inclination to create repeatable processes, Millholland says, but “you’re never going to be tomorrow more than you are today” without them. He shares how having defined processes can help you:
- Turn leads into clients
- Give clients a great experience
- Find and train great team members
- Build confidence
- Keep track of performance
- Adjust to meet projections
Millholland also shares Case’s approach to each of these elements, as well as the metrics the company focuses on for success, how he gets veteran team members to adopt new technology, and much more.
