What’s in the Episode?
DesRoches says restructuring helped his full-service remodeling company scale and grow more quickly. “By shifting our focus from functional optimization to project optimization, we’ve created build teams that operate somewhat autonomously, as if they have their own remodeling business within our company,” he says in the episode. Each team now earns $4 million in annual revenue and $5 million in annual sales for the firm which specializes in residential remodeling throughout the Virginia, Washington D.C. and Maryland area.
DesRoches and Greksouk say it is beneficial for businesses to take a step back to evaluate their operations and stay open to making changes to improve their company’s performance. “Restructuring our firm with a more highly collaborative approach has served both our employees and clients,” says DesRoches. The success of each team is shared, making all employees ultra-focused on the client, as well as their own performance. “With the designers and architects working in unison with the sales developer to win the sale, our projects are set up for success from the outset through to construction,” he says.
The leaders also share other benefit of their unique team-based approach:
- Optimizes profit and customer experience, ensuring consistent relationships and long-term vision.
- Creates ownership of the success of a project across teams from start to finish.
- Makes communication and information sharing more seamless and efficient.
- Provides a clear line of sight into every team member’s workload making it easier to spot where additional support might be needed.
