Work Seamlessly as a Team on Houzz Pro with These New Features

Houzz Pro makes it easier than ever to delegate information & for everyone to know their role.

Stephan Rabimov

At the core of every interior design, new construction, or remodeling project is the team that makes it happen. Collaboration enhances creativity, the art of delegation produces efficiency and crystal clear communication puts everyone on the same road to success.

At Houzz Pro, we want to make teamwork as seamless as possible for our community of professionals so they can optimize the talents of the people who make the transformation of homes happen.

That is why we are thrilled to share a more intuitive and streamlined way for adding, including team members to your Houzz Pro account, and communicating with your team via Team Chat. These changes make it easier for everyone to know their role in a project, assure the most relevant information goes to the right people, and give pros control over information access with just a few clicks.

What’s changing?

  • What: Pros will experience a streamlined process when adding team members to their Houzz Pro account.
  • How: Now, there will be three default Role options to choose from: Admin, Field Crew or Design Team and Finance. Each role comes with default permissions to allow access to projects and features which can be fully customized in the team member dashboard. You can add as many team members as you have in your company.
  • Who:This update only affects team members, not subcontractors or vendors.

Why is it changing?

Many of our Pros running growing businesses have various levels of employees who in turn, need varied levels of access to information. The amount and type of information each type of employee needs to know differs with their role. Pros want to be able to direct the most appropriate information to each and do it easily and quickly.

For some team members, the only information relevant to them is knowing what time to arrive at the job site in the morning and what tasks they are scheduled to perform. They do not need to view the project’s profit and loss figures or the latest email campaign schedule.

A More Intuitive Way

  • Before this release, managing permissions could be time-consuming for pros. The updated Invite for team members gives our pros absolute control over who is getting what information in a matter of clicks.
  • Pros can now grant team members with roles and permissions which make sense to their function on the Team. Here’s an example:
A business partner can have access to all permission settings. A project manager can have no access to financial information like profit and losses, but can schedule their team on job sites through Houzz Pro. And a design team or field crew can access the project management tools, view the schedule and fill in their hours worked.

Three Default Roles

The new invitation flow makes it simple for pros to invite their team members to Houzz Pro and at a glance, understand what permissions they have on the platform.

Here are the three roles we created to help pros easily segment different parts of their business. And, within each role, the account owner can assign full access to specific projects or give specific team members access to all projects going forward if needed.

  • Admin This role provides access to all features on the Houzz Pro Account. The administrator also can take an overview of the other roles so they know when they need to intervene or make adjustments as a project progresses.
  • Field Crew for General Contractors & Design Team Interior Designers In this role, the team members can access the project management tools needed to collaborate and stay in the loop on a project. These include Moodboards, Takeoffs and schedules. They can assign tasks and complete daily logs from anywhere, including using their mobile app on the job site.
  • Finance - Team members provided this access can view and interact with all the financial features in Houzz Pro. This lets the accounts team keep a close eye on the health of projects, issue Invoices and purchase orders and assure a project is staying on budget. The finance team does not need to see or amend a project schedule. The accountant, of course, won't be using the takeoff tool but they do need access to the estimates that were informed from the takeoff itself.

The default permissions will be to give team members access to all previous projects and all new projects created. But you turn this off and give access to certain team members on a case by case basis. The same goes for features which means you know that your financial dashboards are not being shared with anyone who doesn't need to see them and that your accountant is not seeing irrelevant information about your project schedule.

Sharing Choices Birds Eye View

By setting your team up with their appropriate roles in the Houzz Pro system you will be able to see how your business is doing. You will clearly be able to identify when your team is maxed out or what you can start to focus on generating new leads.

Delegation Made Easy

With these new features, pros can have full confidence that they are only sharing information that is relevant to particular team members, and that clients receive the updates and information that is most appropriate for them. This not only avoids potential problems, but allows business owners and team members to cut through the noise, and focus on their particular role in making a project and the growing business the best it can be.

Team Chat

In the fast-paced world of interior design and remodeling, seamless communication is key to delivering exceptional results. Whether you’re coordinating with contractors, managing client expectations, or brainstorming design ideas with your team, clear and efficient communication can make all the difference. Houzz Pro’s Team Chat feature is designed to address this challenge, offering a streamlined way for teams to collaborate in real time.

Here’s how Team Chat can transform the way you work:

1. Keep All Communication in One Place

With Team Chat, you can centralize your conversations directly within Houzz Pro, ensuring everyone stays aligned. Whether you’re sharing updates on a project timeline or discussing the details of a new design concept, everything happens in one easy-to-access location.

Why it matters:

Interior design and remodeling projects often involve various moving parts. Keeping communication in one place minimizes misunderstandings, avoids duplicated efforts, and helps maintain a cohesive workflow.

2. Collaborate in Real Time

Need quick feedback on a design plan? Or an immediate update from a contractor? Team Chat allows you to send instant messages to your team members, ensuring that critical decisions are made without delay. It’s especially useful when time-sensitive issues arise, like confirming materials or responding to client changes.

Pro tip for designers: Use Team Chat to quickly share ideas and images with your team, making brainstorming sessions more dynamic and efficient.

3. Organize Conversations by Project

Each project comes with its own set of details and discussions. With Houzz Pro, you can keep chats organized by project, making it easier to refer back to decisions, updates, or creative ideas. No more digging through endless threads to find a single conversation—everything is where you need it to be.

Why it matters for remodelers: When juggling multiple projects, organized communication is essential to staying on top of deadlines and ensuring consistency across teams.

4. Foster Better Teamwork

Strong collaboration leads to better results. Team Chat empowers your team to work together effectively by making it simple to share updates, assign tasks, and solve problems collaboratively. By keeping everyone in the loop, you foster a culture of accountability and teamwork.

A designer’s tip: Use the chat feature to celebrate wins or share positive client feedback—it’s a great way to keep team morale high.

5. Integrate Chat with Other Houzz Pro Features

Team Chat isn’t just a standalone tool—it integrates seamlessly with other Houzz Pro features, such as project timelines, task management, and client communication. This interconnectedness allows you to streamline your workflows even further, reducing time spent on administrative tasks and freeing you to focus on the creative aspects of your business.
