We're wrapping up our pool remodel that started nearly a year ago. Master Pools is intent on doing a good job. There have been some management issues over the last year or two that led them to accepting too many pool builds/remodels and using inadequate sub-contractors (see my reviews of them). Because they were over committed, the management of our project was seriously lacking: sub contractors didn't know what to do or did whatever they wanted to. Over the course of the project Master Pools has been getting their house in order: they restructured their organization and fired staff, they fired their inadequate sub-contractors (all of the ones that worked on our project). They have fixed, most times taking 3-4 attempts before getting it right, every aspect of our remodel. Unfortunately the sub-contractors did do bad work. Our deck is cracking and shifting. The mortar in the coping and wall are wearing or coming out. I really wonder if the pool, etc, will last. Time will tell. When considering a pool builder/remodeler, take the time to investigate their sub contractors, get feedback from previous customers, talk with the actual workers, ask hard questions, make deadlines and be able to back out of the contract with financial penalties for the contractor if those deadlines are missed, decide on quality metrics and how to know when each step/aspect of the project is done. I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. A 6 week project turned into a multi-month one. Everything had to be reworked 3-4 times. But Master Pools sounds like they're above average. I've heard many stories of much, much worse. Buyer beware!

We were building a custom home with a very tight construction schedule and a complex pool design due to tight courtyard spacing. The build was complicated even further with the length of the hydraulic pipe runs to keep the equipment away from the pool, a fully integrated cantilevered safety cover and a deck drain system that had to run through a exterior wall and around the house to discharge. With this design in mind we looked at bids from several reputable companies in Austin and interviewed several others. The decision was easy once we met Master Pools. Steve made us feel right at home and worked through each and every one of our questions and concerns. Master Pools had competitive pricing, a great show room, in depth knowledge of the products they offer and was more than willing to explain the pros and cons of different types of equipment and finish out. You will also find that they use high quality products and don't cut any corners when it comes to materials or build out. Master Pools also took the time to run out to our job site any time I had questions about the installation and worked closely with the general contractor on coordination of house and pool schedule since the timing was critical and space was limited. I would personally recommend Master Pools to anyone looking to build a pool at an existing or new home. It was a pleasurable experience and it was very refreshing to work with a company that cared not only about their customers, but also the overall quality and finish out of the pool. I just completed a pool build August 3,2013. Master pools were quick, professional and complete in everything. I had several requirements in my pool and they met all of them. Number one was I didn't want a big expensive pool. My pool is 13x23 with a small amount of deck. Master Pools was the only one I talked to that would actually price the pool based on cost. They have a 3D program to lay out your pool and when you say make it a little longer, or take out some deck, or whatever the change is, the program makes the change so you can see it AND it automatically calculates the cost of the change right then. So when I wanted it a foot wider, they put it in the program and said within seconds, "that adds $542 to the cost, do you want to make the change? They used wet mix gunite, dug the whole very well with no problem and there was rock. They were always in check, worked with my HOA to meet their requirements. I have offered to be a reference for them and if you ask them for one it might be me!
