This homeowner left out an important point, he put burning wood on top of the stonework, he admitted that to us and we can see evidence of this from the blacked area on top of the stone where he placed the burning wood. This is what caused his stonework to crack. Even though he was using his fire pit improperly we still offered to pay half the costs which I think is generous since none of this was our fault. Common sense should tell you that when you use an item improperly or in a way that it was not intended then you can indeed cause damage to the product. Fire pits are designed with fire brick inside of them to protect the stone from heat, just the way a fireplace is designed, and when you place a burning log outside of the pit you are going to damage the stone, just the same way you would if you took logs out of your fireplace and placed them on the floor. This person wants to put the blame on us for not telling him something that should be evident to anyone with common sense. Instead of accepting the blame for what he did, he instead posts negative comments about us. That is neither fair or honest on his part.
