He took our blueprints and specifications and provided a very accurate cost estimate. This was updated frequently as construction progressed so we could easily see the budget. Chris coached us through hundreds of design and material decisions, then oversaw his subs during construction and finishing with phenomenal attention to detail and exactness. The workplace was always tidy, well maintained, and secure. Chris was attentive to our every concern throughout the entire process. We hired Chris Kohlhaas of Fredericksburg Custom Homes to build our deck. We began discussions the middle of September 2016. The project we had mapped out was quite involved. Chris was patient with my ideas and stayed in constant contact with us through every step of the way. He made it easy for us to see the progress through his detailed explanations. He was prompt, showed up even on days when there were no workers just to make certain the project was on schedule and to correct any errors before progressing further. We gave him our ultimatum (to have our brick oven ready to use by Christmas morn-meaning there was also a week of curing the oven before usage) and he made certain we were able to have a wonderful Christmas dinner of homemade pizzas, toasted homemade marshmallows and fresh garlic bread! All in all, we love Chris Kohlhaas’ work and would hire him for any other home projects we need completed! His attention to detail, his management style, his perseverance to make certain we were aware of each progress or setback through each step of the way showed us an old-fashioned management style where the customer is always right and the goal is to always make certain his customer is satisfied.

Porch turned out much better than anticipated. Yard was kept clean/organized. Nothing was damaged. They took care of everything permit, etc. Any concern I had was answered and taken care of immediately. I have one last large project to complete and will not even consider another contractor. Will also use them for smaller projects inside. I am very happy with the quality of work start to finish.

Chris Kohlhaas is one of the best Custom Home builders that I have ever worked with. Not only did he build our home in Round Hill Va, but I am an Interior Designer so I have had the privilege of working with Chris on numerous projects over the years. As far as my own home is concerned Chris did an excellent job of turning my vision into reality. I was a challenging client because I wanted to incorporate antique architectural elements wherever I could. My goal was to make our new home look and feel like it was built a couple of centuries ago. Whatever challenge I threw Chris he handled with ease – whether it be painted floors, antique stair parts that needed to be adjusted to meet code, antique locks and door knobs that had unique installation requirements , or old doors in odd sizes that required custom jambs. One of the things that I like best about working with Chris is that he really takes the time to get to know the homeowner’s likes, dislikes and style. In addition, and more importantly is that Chris considers function first. Chris listened to all of my ideas and gently guided me away from some that would have either not worked the way I thought or would cost to much to implement. He also provided many creative ideas of his own. He is always thinking ten steps ahead so that issues and problems can be avoided. In addition his construction knowledge and experience can be seen in every part of the project. When the County inspectors would come to make their inspections the would always comment that they never have to worry about whether there would be a problem or not because Chris goes above and beyond what most builders do in terms of framing, structure, engineering and conforming to all building codes. The end result is that we absolutely love our home and so does anyone who has seen it. The house won Finest Family Living Awards from the Northern Virginia Home Building Industry Association. I would highly recommend Fredericksburg Custom homes for any project and try to use him for my own clients whenever possible.

Chris Kohlhaas and his exceptional team turned my 1985 single family house into a modern residence by leveraging their in-depth knowledge, experience, and a lot of innovation. Chris had a fantastic attitude during the entire process and accommodated every last minute change I requested. He was able to stay within my modest budget while still delivering on all of my requirements. This renovation included redesigns of my kitchen, 3 bathrooms, the living/dining room, two staircases, and my back deck. Chris also integrated a tank-less water heater, a whole house water filtration system and a new high efficiency HVAC system. From knocking down walls, to painting the entire interior of the house, Chris' attention to detail and proactive management approach made this a pleasant engagement.
