We worked with Changing Landscapes in 2012 to complete a high end residential project in south Boulder. We couldn't be happier with the collaboration with changing landscapes completing the complex planting plan , irrigation and construction of the west end boccie court and wood fire pit area . They were a delight to work with and we look forward to future projects with them.

This is an amazing landscaping business. Paul listens to every word you say and puts it into action. He is not just a landscaper, he is an Artist. If you are even thinking about putting rocks in your yard, this is the landscaper you must hire. He sticks to his budget. His workers are respectful, and happy. Everyone cleans up after themselves. I think I may just like the outside of my house, better than the inside. Paul also knows how to work on a schedule! He is really good with water, although, we didn't put any water features in.

We have enjoyed working with Paul and the Changing Landscape crew on several projects. They installed the landscaping at our new build Observatory Park seven years ago, our town home in Vail and a rental property in Englewood. All have stood the test of time, having matured beautifully and retained structural integrity. Our garden has attracted quite a bit of attention and was recently featured in both a national and local magazine.
Across the board he and crew have been industrious, provided a high level of craftsmanship in hardscaping, lighting and water features. The plantings have stood the test of time, and if there has ever been a problem, Paul and crew have been quick to remedy the situation. He is honest, fair and professional and having just sold our home, we will likely look to Paul again for our next project.

Changing Landscapes did a major landscaping project in my quite challenging, steeply sloped and rocky backyard. I was introduced to them by the landscape architect Tom Altgelt who often does projects with Changing Landscapes. I went for several reference visits where this team had worked together and made a decision to go forward based on the work they did and the experiences of the homeowners to whom I spoke.
The end result was quite amazing overall which included a multi-tier water feature that had a 30ft elevation change. Paul Hartman and his crew were very responsive through the entire process and are still available after a year to help me with questions about my system. I could reach Paul on the phone pretty much any time and he would promptly return my call if I didn't reach him directly. We also emailed regularly on details about the project which suits my working style.
The Changing Landscape crew is especially skilled in stone work. I had many dry-stack, moss-rock walls constructed to for planter beds, waterfalls, and benches. We put in a lot of curved walls capped with flagstone that had to follow the curved contours. The work was quite impressive and blended in with large boulders that were placed all around. Like most projects, things don't go exactly as planned and you learn things as you go and perhaps made some aesthetic adjustments as you see the project on paper materialize. I could work with Paul and his lead crewman Hernan and make adjustments as we went. I was extremely impressed with Hernan from his stone working skills, water feature experience, and knowing how to chain up big boulders in the optimal way.
The entire crew was hardworking and courteous. I felt a bit bad about the hard labor on my project. The crew literally was hanging on ropes at times to jack hammer through sandstone. That didn't seem to curb their enthusiasm for the project and I could tell they were pretty proud of the result.
The job was pretty hairy at times because massive boulders had to be placed. One was 14K labs. The 50 ton crane parked in my driveway had to swing its boom over my house! These guys are definitely professionals. They used the right equipment up to heavy machinery and were skilled in operating them.
The only thing that I think could have been improved was sometimes communication between the landscape architect and the crew. Because I personally get involved in a lot of the details I could get everyone on the same page if I saw anything drifting.
The end result exceeded my expectations I would strongly recommend Changing Landscapes to anyone. I plan to hire them again when I'm ready to transform the front yard.

I hired Changing Landscapes and Paul Hartman to install our Landscaping design by Tom Altget from Boulder. We live in Louisville. I can't say enough great things about Changing Landscapes. They were professional, timely and did a beautiful job on the execution of Tom's vision. The most impressive thing to me was that Paul actually placed each giant rock for our water feature himself driving the backhoe. You know anymore many "owners" come out and sell the job, then their team of guys that might not speak English arrive to do the work. I was thrilled to have Paul on the job and taking pride in seeing that the job was done right! I've also had to call Paul or his brother Dan a couple of times about small things after the fact and they continue to be responsive and service their clients. I love that!

Changing Landscapes just completed a multi-month, large landscape project for us and I am thrilled with the result. Our project included a driveway, walkways, a stone patio, lawn and multiple garden areas. Changing Landscapes was on budget and on time. The work crew were hardworking craftsmen who worked beautifully and consistently to complete the project on time. They finished the project by cleaning the site and leaving us with a beautiful new yard! They are wonderful to work with and I would, and will, recommend them whole heartedly, without reservation.

Changing Landscapes installed a beautiful pavestone patio complete with new trees, shrubs, flowers and irrigation. All work was completed on-time with the utmost care. Contractor was very easy to work with. We are delighted with the finished design.

We were disappointed in the lack of attention to detail, both in the quality of work and materials provided. We did our "due diligence" to check out the company, but in retrospect, allowed ourselves to be unduly swayed by a designer with whom the company frequently collaborates. The experience was stressful and unpleasant, as it became apparent that questions and/or reminders regarding what we had agreed to were at times, viewed as intrusive.
The crew finished ahead of schedule, and when my wife raised some of our concerns, they were met with defensiveness. The company is much more expensive than most, but turned out to be typical in that they were most concerned with a quick finish and moving on than the quality that had been discussed.
There was no final walk-through or communication regarding our satisfaction at the end of the job. Changing Landscapes was unwilling to discuss problems we experienced after the job, but within the warranty period. As a residential client, I would not recommend Changing Landscapes.

Comment from Changing Landscapes:
It's surprising to get this kind of extreme negative feedback since more than a year has passed since the job was completed. At the time, these clients expressed satisfaction. Of course, we are sorry that they feel that way. It feels bad that they thought the process was "stressful and unpleasant." We want all our customers to be happy with the completed project. That said, we would have preferred that they had addressed their concerns directly to us at the time. I do recall that we did do a final walk-through and discussed all the details of their project thoroughly. We spent extra time re-working previously completed parts of the project at no cost to them to meet their changing visions of their ideal patio--the paver cracks were too wide, then too tight, then after we revised the space again, they claimed to like it. All materials were approved by them on site, before they were installed throughout the job. As confusing as their review is to us, we are truly sorry to hear that they are so unhappy.
