Siteline Architecture

We unreservedly recommend Siteline Architecture. We worked with Richard Baker from Siteline at one house on several small projects and at another on the conversion of a completely unfinished basement to a fully finished living unit. We found Richard a pleasure to work with. He was personally engaging, prompt and flexible in scheduling, meticulous with details, and creative in blending our ideas with his own. As a longtime resident, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of local resources and regulations.

Have worked with the group on our house twice now. We are currently in construction and have found them extremely responsive and knowledgeable. We had some difficult design constraints and they took our comments and wishes and translated them into an efficient and construct-able design. For the amount of revisions we requested and time spent in the regulatory process, we feel that we received a great value. Their rates were reasonable and the hours billed were more than fair. I would highly recommend them if you are planning to build.

We paid a huge amount of money for an extremely inferior plan. We did not get most of what we asked for or rightly expected -- including simple things: an electrical panel, a dishwasher, and a hot water heater! What kind of architecture firm ignores basic requirements on your final plan. My husband and I met with the owner at which point he seemed to take responsibility, yet offered no compensation for their errors and omissions. We are extremely disappointed in ourselves for choosing Siteline. We feel we got the old bait and switch. Take my advice contact a contractor before you find an architect. I don't know of one contractor that didn't have major issues and concerns with Siteline. Too bad we had to learn the hard way.

Richard Baker of Siteline Architecture helped us completely remodel a 3,000 + sq. ft. vacation home in Grass Valley. He did an innovative design for us and then project managed the construction with his network of skilled subcontractors, all while we were hours away. We were very impressed by his knowledge, professionalism and particularly with his patience - we are a multigenerational family who doesn't always agree! The final product was high quality with an attention to detail we appreciated. We highly recommend Richard and Siteline, and would use them again without hesitation.

After buying a house little changed since built in the 1980s, we decided to bring it into the 21st century. This was a major remodel, involving almost every floor, wall, countertop, and ceiling in the house. Lots of electrical work (over 100 fixtures added), new kitchen, tile and wood flooring, doors, drywall, etc., etc. Of course we can't forget the demo work first, from removing old wallpaper to taking out a huge brick fireplace with a demolition hammer. Siteline, and in particular our designer/project manager Richard, was highly recommended by our neighbors. And they were right. In addition to design expertise, Richard knew what kind of materials made most sense, where to get them, who to get to install everything, and all of the other zillion details. Many people have told us horror stories of big projects dragging on for years, and much frustration in getting people to actually come to do the work. Not a problem with Siteline. They have developed a long list of the best contractors and artisans that you want for your project. They know how to balance cost and quality of work so you don't overpay and, just as important, don't underpay and get poor work. It's now been about 6 months since the last details were finished. We recommend Richard and Siteline highly. Photos included are from various points in the project.

Richard and Andrew are the jewel architectural design team of Nevada County, having struck a graceful balance between dedication to their practice and clients but also to the greater community. They were willing to mentor and encourage me before I entered design school, again upon receiving my design degree and most recently after establishing my own interior design practice in Sacramento. In 2012, I was approached by Siteline to consult on a residential remodel in Nevada City and was impressed with their ego-less client approach and commitment to quality design. I used Richard Baker and Siteline to draw up an artists studio for my property. The process was easy, pain free, and plans came out beautiful! I had none of the usual hassles from planning commission, and Richard even helped me find a contractor. I give them my highest recommendation! Fantastic, talented group!

We contacted Siteline with the idea of a complete house remodel, after our initial meeting and a walk through of the existing house and some discussion of what we wanted to do, we really liked everyone they were very easy to work with and had good ideas of how to resolve things to achieve our end goal. Our project was lead by Richard Baker, Great to work with and Dennis and the rest of the team made it exciting to see the ideas being put into completed designs, they were always interactive and provided more than one way choice of how to accomplish our design goals, even when they changed several times during the design and latter phases. When we altered or wanted to change something they were informative on how those changes would effect cost and the scale of the work. They were also very insightful on what we could and couldn't do with the project from state/county side rather than getting plans done and getting them rejected by planning dept. Resulting in smooth transition from design to construction. The end project was large in scale with an almost complete rebuild, moving the entire sewer setup and all plumbing, electrical and most of the walls, new roofing systems as well as meeting all of the new energy and construction standards. The provided us with a budget up front detail the anticipated cost to complete the design work and even with the numerous changes we made still came in under budget. As we approached the construction phase then provided a list at our request of contractors that they have worked with and had had positive experiences with which resulted in way less stress as and us finding a great local contractor to handle the project! I completed a kitchen remodel last summer with Richard Baker and Siteline Architecture and it was a very positive experience. We worked primarily with Richard Baker from Siteline during our master bathroom remodel. The design was complete but we just couldn't find a suitable contractor to complete the job. Richard completed the job in short order and at a competitive price. All his subs were highly skilled and professional. Richard's constant communication assured that we knew the schedule and reason for any delays (almost none). In addition, Richard made numerous suggestions that improved the design AND saved money! For future projects we will save time by calling Siteline first thing.
