With no backyards but access to the beaches and idyllic doses of salt and sun, our business story began with the adventure of three boys. Laguna Beach's creative culture and natural environment shaped our professional and aesthetic ideals. Looking back it's not clear that our childhood projects and experiments grew into our best adventure yet: building Cerno.
The Beginning
Our drive and Influences come from many different sources. One source that influenced all of us is Daniel's late grandfather, Steve. Steve grew up on a remote homestead where the existence of most objects depended on people's ability to create and fix them. For all of his 101 years, he embodied saying "where there's a will, there's a way." On the California coast we were raised with this mentality and today we share it with the rest of the Cerno team.
Our Team
Each finished product is a celebration of the inventive minds and industrious hands that brought it to life. The passion of our steadily growing team and their commitment to the product is inspiring. We are grateful for every individual that is part of our collaborative creative process.
On our Cerno journey, we continue to evolve as designers and craftsman. The Penna is a celebration of us drawing and reflecting on our last ten years. This design is an embodiment of all the lessons that we have learned from designing and building thousands of lights. This fixture balances utility and sophisticated beauty well. The walnut, brass, and leather work in concert to compose a modern form with materials that have been used for thousands of years.
