About This Coastal Nature Photograph: The Beautiful State of Erosion project was created to showcase the stunning details & color variations of a variety of washed up Whelk shells found in Hatteras, North Carolina. The Whelk shells were found lodged in the correlated grooves of a large steel jetty near the old site of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The seashells were there for an unknown amount of years and each shell is in its own state of erosion. Beautiful State of Erosion was designed on black backgrounds to highlight the smooth edges that formed on the shells from the years of tumbling on the ocean floor or the water rushing over them once they were lodged in the jetty.
