“Attic Renovation--Vermont Renovation and Remodeling worked with my partner and I over the course of a year to design and build out our 1880s farmhouse. The project had many working parts including moving a set of terribly steep stairs and building a new stairwell in a different area of the home. We were hoping to renovate the original and unused attic space of our home and add a bedroom and bathroom. VTR&R offered several designs and worked with us to plan for our current and future needs. At the end of the project, we have finished with more than we could have imagined! Their staff offered creative solutions to small areas (built in bookshelf to hide old stairwell entry), they were committed to refinishing and saving the original hardwood floors, and added touches original to the old home that makes the house feel authentic and fresh. In home, their staff and contractors are vetted and great to work with. Since we often work from home, working hours often overlapped and there was always communication and warnings for any changes or requests to keep the renovation moving without disruption to us and the job timeline. During very few hiccups for such a large project, Bill was sure to communicate options and be proactive with solutions. We highly recommend VTR&R and will use this company again in the future whenever our home needs works beyond our own capabilities. Thanks again for the unique touches and the great experience!”

I had so much trepidation on starting this process from past updating experiences with other contractors. With such a large undertaking so many things could go wrong or not look like I expected or maybe people wouldn't be respectful. All that was totally washed away with your crew being patient with us, you guys brought your A game everyday to our house. The kitchen and everything is still working great for us. “My husband and I own a reproduction saltbox home. Because of the sloping back roof, our bedroom closets and our upstairs baths are very small. We asked Melissa to evaluate the structure of the house to determine if we could “bump out” the back of the house in order to gain more space. In effect to convert the home from a saltbox to a colonial. She spent a good deal of time crawling around in the attic and found that the way the back structure of the house was designed, which included a beam that we were not aware of that tied the two sides of the house together, our idea of a simple “bump out” was impractical and would necessitate significant structural alternations. Her findings saved us valuable time and effort with contractors and town permits. She proposed a much more practical and economical alternative which also would not change the look of the saltbox aspect to our home that we have grown to love. Sometimes it is as important to be informed that an idea is impracticable than it is to plough ahead at all costs. Melissa’s insights were invaluable and we found her knowledgable and creative with her design ideas.”
