Hush House
Building Designers in Austin
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMay 30, 2021
I own a home in East Austin and worked with Marcus to build a 900 square foot ADU and office / studio space on the back half of my lot. Overall it was a great experience and the end result is more design driven and high quality than I expected when I had the idea to build. Working with Marcus was a very collaborative process. He did a great job of listening to me and my goals for the project and proposing design ideas that I would have never envisioned on my own. That said, I also felt I had a hand in the design process and Marcus was great rethinking design elements that I felt didn't suit my needs or aesthetics. The result is a structure that has unique elements that reflect a creative process that I felt I had an active part in. The end result is an environment with features that I remember being born more as stories than drawings on paper. The project came in close to budget and I feel I got a more than I expected for the money I spent on the project. With a tight labor market and competition for resources in Austin, Marcus did a good job of navigating the challenges of the build process, whether that involved interactions with permitting and inspections or finding the right sub-contractors for a job that involved a lot of custom fabrication. Marcus and I were friends before the project, and still are, and that says a lot about the success of a build project that can experience the unexpected. The photos in this review are the project near completion in 2017 and recently in 2021.

Clark Richardson Architects

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsNovember 5, 2014
I have worked with many architects over the years, and and can easily say, Clark/ Richardson Architects was hands down the best. They paid close attention to my vision of the spaces I wanted to create in my new home and worked closely with me to bring them to a reality. More than just the visual aesthetic, they created the feel that I was hoping for. Not easy to do when you are remodeling a 90 year old home and have to deal with Historic Preservation guidelines at the same time. They were easy to get along with personally, for both me and my contractor. Their attention to detail was impeccable. I am thrilled with my beautiful, comfortable, 5 star energy efficient home!!
Brickmoon Design

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJanuary 31, 2013
We hired Brickmoon Design to draw plans for our small 1920 bungalow to add a 2nd bath and were hoping to get the washer/dryer into the house (from the garage). They came up with 2 main ideas, took dimensions and we had the survey done, but we have not made a decision on whether to 1) stay within our small 1350 sf footprint, or 2) add onto the house at a substantially higher cost. My husband doesn't want to spend the extra money to add on but I like the addition idea the best, so we have not gone any further. So far, we are out about $5,000 for plans and survey but are stalled. Brickmoon gave us exactly what we asked for, but I still think there has got to be a cost effective way to add an additional 200-300 square feet. Am I dreaming?

I retained Roeder Design to design a guest house on some river property I had acquired. We were so pleased with the outcome we utilized Roeder Design for the main house as well. I was especially pleased with the way Stacey gradually found out our likes and dislikes by walking with us around our old home and interviewing us concerning what we wanted in the new house.

MF Architecture is a full service architectural firm. One of the unique aspects of this firm is the owner, Matt Fajkus, is also a professor at the University of Texas. As a result, the firm has access to the very best talent. My wife and I were quickly impressed with the members of the firm. They are sharp, responsive, meticulous, and most of all work very well with people. The team is diverse and cater to everything Austin has to offer. We are currently in the middle of a smaller project approximately $250k. We are looking forward to not only completing our project, but maintaining a long-term relationship and going forward referring our friends and family. I am very grateful for being introduced to MF Architecture.

We met Mauricio through a mutual friend a few years ago when we were looking into remodeling our home. He was very patient and readily available to clarify all the questions we had. He is very talented and great to work with. We really appreciate his help in making a seemingly overwhelming process feel effortless. We would definitely hire him again!
