“Mr. Manley provided initial sketches, more detailed builders' drawings, and then plenty of advice and direct work with contractors about diverse elements of the project, through the selection of contractors, the design and building process, and afterward as we added a few optional features post hoc. In all respects, Mr. Manley has been personable, warm, enthusiastic, professional, knowledgeable, and provided work that has been tasteful and beautiful, usable to builders, in accordance with county codes, and in every way reliable. “After reading rave reviews on Houzz, I contacted Jimmy Dollman to help me design my future home plan. I had spent years searching for the perfect home plan on-line and in books, dreaming to someday build my own home, and finally had the opportunity to try to make that dream a reality for a home near Smith Mountain Lake. Unfortunately, no "canned plan" met the criteria for my perfect home, so I turned to Jimmy for his expertise and guidance to design a home, and create a plan within my budget...and that was no easy fete! From the beginning and throughout the entire project, Jimmy was incredibly helpful, responsive and professional. He answered any question I had without hesitancy (and there were many!), returned calls and emails the same day, and provided progress updates and draft revisions frequently. He had excellent interior and exterior design ideas for the style of home that I wanted to build, right down to the style of windows, cabinets and doors...because there IS a difference! In addition, he provided great advice on how to stay within my budget by focusing on the layout of the floor plan to maximize square footage and useful space. I couldn't have been happier or more satisfied with the design process and finished product - it was a fun, enjoyable experience, and in the end, it is MY perfect home plan! “Working with Mr. Lawrie has been a pleasure. Not only did he listen to our wants but incorporated them into our design, often with multiple redesigns. He understood where we wanted to go on design and was able to add bits that reflected our desires while keeping a working sensible home. His vast experience (40+ years) as an architect allowed him to design a tight, energy efficient home. We have a young family, so designing a home for now and the future was very important to us. His ability to understand these usability elements and then blend in the style we wanted was critical. Mr. Lawrie walked us through the pros and cons of each part and gave us the choice. Additionally, his practical knowledge helped us to decide where to allocate more money for extra benefit as well as where we could save money with little or no change in performance or design. Overall our experience was extremely positive and we wholeheartedly recommend him. We would hope that everyone would have as an enjoyable experience with their architect as we did with Mr. Lawrie.”
