With almost twenty years of design experience behind her, Julia Overton collaborates with clients to design inviting spaces that are comfortable, yet refined. Her goal is to create beautiful environments that are livable, practical and functional. One of her trademarks is shaping spaces that evolve over time with a client’s lifestyle. About Julia Overton Interiors Julia Overton is known for her gracious, comfortable interiors which are a result of a partnership with each client. She believes a well-designed space nurtures the unique lifestyle of her clients and reflects something of their personal story. Her goal is to create, welcoming beautiful spaces to be lived in and enjoyed rather than individual showcases. Her trademark is making a new room seem as though it has been gradually filled over time. She appropriately combines her clients’ favorite treasures with beautiful upholstery, handsome furniture, and a well-chosen antique or two. “This way the room does not feel ‘done’ and has a more relaxed atmosphere.” These elements, along with lush fabrics and architectural details give her rooms a settled and timeless look. She sees an open dialogue between herself and her client, as absolutely essential. “I listen as they describe how they’d like to spend time in a room. Floor plans are then developed from their individual goals like fostering conversation here, or encouraging a space to linger there; or creating a space where kids enjoy bringing friends home.” One of Julia’s favorite ways to give a room great energy is using strong color. She has even helped clients overcome their fear of color by showing them how a balance of color and neutrals can be a delightful way to mix art work and wall or ceiling paint with fabric and floor coverings.

Dynerman Architects is a small, versatile, design-oriented firm located in Washington DC. Led by Alan Dynerman, FAIA, the firm has earned a reputation for listening to and embracing our clients' goals, professional service and design excellence. Our office works from a point of view that is based on a few simple ideas: 1. That the nobility of architecture is rooted in its reality and utility; 2. That the two mediums of architecture are materiality and construction; 3. That the integration of architecture and site is the first measure of good work. Embracing these essential ideas, our body of work does not cleave to specific styles or trends, formal or philosophical. From this stance our office has built a practice that encompasses a range of project types from residences to conference centers to university planning studies. The firm is founded on the passion that we have for our work. We believe that what we do is important; it is satisfying and at times humbling. As architects, we are entrusted with the responsibility and privilege to develop the arenas of human interaction.

My name is Kaki, and I definitely dream in color. Growing up in North Carolina, I was constantly surrounded by design and art through the influence of my mother and grandmothers. Interior design is my passion. I graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Psychology. After graduation, I moved to the DC area, where my passion has led the way throughout my career. My first job was with Ferguson Enterprises as a sales consultant. I was a part of the team that opened their showroom at the DC Design Center. I have also been a consultant for a local granite supplier and tile showroom. Most recently, I spent 10 years working for a remodeling company, where I was the lead kitchen and bath designer. I have over 14 years of onsite experience; learning products, construction and design planning including 20/20 design layouts. What is my personal style?? That is always a hard question. What I do know is that my main goal is to create spaces that are inviting, tell a story about the individual and/or family I'm working with, and to have an unexpected element in the design. Kitchens are my favorite spaces as in our modern world it is often the “new family room”. Bathrooms are another favorite place of mine to design. I enjoy creating a place that is yours to relax in and I welcome the challenge of achieving that feeling even in the smallest space. Oh and don't get me started on color! I might be a little obsessed with the paint wheel! My purse is always big enough to carry one wherever I go. My husband and two amazing young children (Truman & Maley = Truley) have given me inspiration in creating spaces that tell our family’s story. My goal is to offer that same story telling space to my clients. That is really the part of the design process I love the most; helping real people make their home “Truley” theirs.
