LEED-certified architects of finely-designed custom homes, remodels, additions and interiors. A client-centric approach. Permit expertise and excellent project management. Design Quality and Diversity Winder Gibson’s signature design projects are never bound by a specific style or material palette, but rather demonstrate an attention to detail, clean crisp lines, sustainability and function. They approach every design with an appreciation for the poetic experience of architecture, such as a hand gliding down a mahogany handrail or the afternoon light captured through a certain window. On their website you can see the depth of experience in their portfolio of diverse projects, flawlessly executed for satisfied clients. Client-Oriented Approach Winder Gibson understands that it takes more than a good design to make a project happen—it takes collaboration and communication. They actively listen to their clients and tailor their services to the clients’ needs. They promptly respond to phone calls and emails and deal with issues as soon as they arise. Working closely with clients, they understand the personal and emotional aspects of every project. And working with small and large developers, they know the business behind construction, including carrying costs, budgets and schedules. Free In-Home Consultation and Flexible Pricing Winder Gibson offers free initial in-home consultations. This meeting allows them to get to know you, assess the proposed project and develop a pricing structure that works for everyone. Not every client requires the same suite of services. They help clients understand the role of the architect and the ways they can save money in the long run by avoiding change orders and cost overruns during construction. Permit and Planning Department Expertise It is no coincidence that Winder Gibson’s office is a few blocks from the San Francisco Building and Planning Departments where they have carefully fostered strong relationships with staff members. They know how to shepherd a project through the confusing permit process and obtain variances, conditional use permits, neighborhood notifications and seismic upgrades. Beyond San Francisco, they have navigated some of the toughest permit departments around the Bay Area, including Tiburon, Hillsborough, Berkeley, and Sonoma and Napa counties.

Our designs are based on the principles of modern architecture that have made the West Coast so special - each building is knitted to its site in a way that seems almost inevitable. Where appropriate, we use open planning, both horizontally and vertically, to create exciting spatial experiences, and we strive to create architecture that, both physically and visually, celebrates the beauty of the natural landscape by blurring the boundary between inside and outside. Contact us for your next project. We'd love to help you design your dream home!

At Studio M thoughtful residential design begins with you. Your home, your needs, your goals. We work with homeowners as part of a team. Once we understand your goals, we determine a budget, and then provide clear, strong design options. Studio M provides residential design services that are modern at their core. Our work takes into account the specifics of your property, your home, and your preferences. To create homes that reflect your personality, we collaborate. We listen. Our approach begins with an understanding that the spaces we design will shape the activity of our clients’ lives. So we take the opportunity seriously and design with great care. And we approach each project, from small bathroom remodels to new homes, with the same attention. The result is as unique as you are. At the end of the day, your new residential design from Studio M will reflect who you are and support how you want to live.

The Studio: We develop adaptive architectural solutions that bridge all aspects of a design problem. Our approach begins with the analysis of project components that range from environmental and use conditions to code constraints. We then look to varied disciplines that include architecture, interiors, landscape and construction as part of a comprehensive methodology. As a result, our designs respond in a wide-ranging, innovative, and often unexpected manner - resulting in space and form that is creative and fresh while maintaining use and purpose. This process engenders an architecture that is of its time and simultaneously, timeless. Matthew Baran: Matt is a licensed architect who has been practicing in Northern and Southern California for over 15 years. He has extensive experience with single and multi-family residential, commercial, and institutional architecture. He previously worked on large and small scale projects for firms as diverse as Angelil Graham (Now AGPS) and The Jerde Partnership. In addition to his own practice, he is a partner at the design build development firm Assemblage. Matthew teaches courses at UC Berkeley and the Academy of Art University, and has been invited to critique at schools that include Stanford, California College of the Arts, and USC. His research and academic work focuses on the use of broadly defined machines to analyze, extend, and respond to existing site conditions. His research focus includes mapping, diagramming and scripting using BIM, GIS, CNC fabrication and experimental robotics.

Fernau & Hartman Architects was founded in 1981 and almost immediately established a unique reputation for diversity and excellence in design. Based in Berkeley, California with a field office in Clyde Park, Montana, our work can be found in regions that range from the vineyards of California, to the ranchlands of Colorado, and to the picturesque hamlets of the Hudson Valley and Martha’s Vineyard. Our work combines an understanding of traditional and vernacular buildings with contemporary innovation and a special concern for sustainability. We seek to merge architecture with landscape, and indoors with outdoors, deepening the connection to climate and site. As early adopters of energy-conscious design, our approach always begins with the integration of passive systems, the “first principles” of architecture. Although our work is enriched through diverse interests and concerns, each project finds its point of departure in specific circumstances of the site and our client’s needs. Process is important to us; through collaboration and improvisation, site-walks and workshops, we work closely with our clients to discover and enhance the potential of the place.

Architecture defines our relationship with the environment, embodies our values, and gives us an opportunity to create something transcendent. We believe that while great architecture does not have to be expensive, it takes creativity and diligence to synthesize the aspirations and constraints of a project and its stakeholders’ into something to be proud of. Buildings should function as well-designed tools to enhance both our lives and our environment. Randolph R. Ruiz founded AAA at the beginning of 2005 to work directly with clients to develop quality projects that are contemporary, engaging, and environmentally responsible. AAA has produced award winning work that has been featured in print, exhibitions, and online. Randolph has worked on a diverse array of projects from restaurants and residences, to theaters and office towers and is Senior Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Though based in the Bay Area, Randolph has experience all over the state and considers himself a California Architect ready to take on a challenge no matter the location.
