In our twenty years of designing houses, Rommel Design Ltd. has gained a solid reputation for functional, as well as sensible design of most all residential design styles. Our primary objective is to keep the building structure as simple as possible, so that you are able to allocate your budget to where you can see, feel, and live it! This is successfully accomplished through careful listening to you, our client, and translating your wishes and needs into design concepts which exemplify their practical requirements within an imaginative building form. A Rommel designed home is an investment in quality. It will be a true statement of how you live and how you create a home! We are a team of residential designers as opposed to registered architects! When it comes to designing houses, it's the same or better service. Someone usually listens and takes notes!

Shelter is a multi-disciplinary design practice that has evolved out of the desire to create objects, spaces, and buildings that delight and inspire. Principal, Mark Simone, has had a lifelong passion for design, and in particular the architecture of the home, where we spend the majority of our lives. Upon completing a degree in Architecture from the University of Waterloo in 2000, he has spent time as a designer, artist, and builder to fully explore his creative vision. At the root of our design philosophy is a respect for our environment and a desire to reduce our ecological footprint. We believe that building is human nature; a transformative process that should enhance the world for all its inhabitants and for future generations. Within our creations, we seek to strengthen our relationship to our surroundings in an experiential and artistically interpretive manner. Our goal is to create great relationships with clients and builders. We bring a strong design vision to every project, and we understand the collaborative nature of building. We listen to the needs of our clients, and we respect the knowledge of our contractors. We encourage an open dialogue throughout the design and construction process and recognize that the most successful projects are those that utilize the strengths of all parties involved.

After high school Mark attended Dordt College in Iowa and studied liberal arts. He took a year to work, travel and sail on the Great Lakes, the Mississippi River, southern Florida and the Bahamas. He returned to the Pacific Northwest and continued schooling at Western Washington University, working in the construction industry while going to college. I spent a school term managing a state representative’s successful election campaign and then went on to work in the Bill Room in the Washington State Legislature. Mark completed all the courses that Western Washington University’s technology department offered in architecture at that time and began designing buildings in 1983. Since then he has been involved in the design and planning of school classroom additions, church and religious building additions, office buildings, fueling stations and mini-marts, residences, agricultural buildings and commercial buildings. He applied for and received approval to take the ENCARB architectural exam in 1995. I passed all nine sections of the architectural exam within one year and became licensed as an architect in Washington State in 1997.

With 30 years experience, Bruce Higginson of Dwellings Custom Home Design has drawn hundreds of quality custom dream homes for owners and builders, from craftsman, contemporary to west coast modern, with a renewed focus on green and eco-conscious design. Located in the Cowichan Valley, we have designed houses in Vancouver, Victoria and across Vancouver Island. Dwellings now has stock plans. Dwellings Design is a complete design & permit drawing service. Generally, there are three phases to the drawing process, depending on the clients' needs. During the conceptual phase, clients can express what they have in mind for their new home or renovation plans. From the information the client has expressed, a preliminary design is created. Additionally, a 3D model can be provided if necessary. Once the preliminary design is complete (upon satisfaction of the client), working drawings are produced. These are the large drawings that will be stamped at the Planning Department and used for building your home. I have kept this simple process the same for 25 years. I have found it helps to make the clients' experience as painless and smooth as possible.

Arata Hatanaka Design Atelier (ADA) is a registered Building Design and Interior Design studio based in North Vancouver, B.C. Canada. With over 20 years of local experience, we deliver personalized design services for custom homes and renovations. We pride ourselves on being humble and approachable with the rigorousness of our character being expressed through the thoroughness of our design work. Check out our portfolio below and you will see the uniqueness of each space, which has designed through a customer-specific, people-first approach. Design is innate to Arata. Since he was a child, Arata always enjoyed creating form by folding, poking, tearing or twisting. Every construction site in his neighborhood growing up was his playground and he was eager to understand household repairs to learn how things work and how they are made. It was a natural path for him to pursue a career in the design industry and in 1996 he graduated from the Japan Design Institute in Sendai, Miyagi and relocated to British Colombia shortly thereafter. Arata is constantly striving to remain broad-visioned with each project he takes on and he enjoys the challenge of optimizing spaces and structures to refocus on objects & subjects that have been overlooked or forgotten.
