HH Furr Architecture & Development
Architects, Architecture Firms, & Building Designers in Jackson County
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJuly 9, 2013
“HH Furr Architecture & Development designed and oversaw the construction of our 2800 sq ft, two-story home in Ocean Springs, MS. We love it! There are so many interesting architectural details--I smile every time I see it. This is our "forever home." Henry Furr is very easy to work with. We told him we wanted a home that made use of every bit of our space, and he gave us exactly that. Plus, he added lots of great details and features that I would not have thought of. And I felt so much more comfortable having him oversee the construction as well. All in all, working with HH Furr Architecture & Development was a great experience!”

“We met Don 2 years ago with ideas to build our dream home. He worked closely with us and our builder to adapt our home plan to our lot. Great attention was placed on preserving the natural landscape and numerous 100+ year old live oaks. Several months into the design, we totally changed plans and adapted a second home plan to the lot.Don was extremely easy to work with and provided excellent and comprehensive plans. He personally visited the site several times before construction and during construction to see how the lines on paper became our home.”

“In our estimation, we feel fortunate to have found Dennis Cowart and company. We are a husband and wife with completely different tastes who seldom agree on design or decor. Before beginning the restoration (part of home) and a remodel (with an addition) on a historically significant home in Ocean Springs, we went to him. He listened intently to our desires, individually and together. On his first submission, Dennis was 95% on-target for a design that restored the home's dignity and made us both extremely happy. A couple of tweaks later, we were ready to go. His reputation and standing as an architect helped the planning and permitting slide along much more easily than expected. The Historic Preservation Committee appreciated his vision, and we had approval on the first submission. He helped us find the perfect contractor for this sensitive project and was always available to answer issues or help find the most elegant solutions that the restoration of a home this age creates. Our home is a showplace. An architect of his talent, depth of knowledge, and expertise is a rare find, indeed. On top of all that, he is a kind and decent man. We are planning a new project. Dennis Cowart will be our first call.”

“I was looking for someone to draw my house plans, and through other reputable builders in the area, I was directed to Mrs. Stankoski with Coastal Classics. This was my first experience having blueprints drawn up, and I was VERY pleased with the results and the process. Mrs. Stankoski was receptive to my suggestions and questions and the entire project went as smooth as I could have ever hoped for. She was very knowledgeable and offered suggestions or guidance where otherwise I would have never thought to ask. From start to finish I could not have asked for a better experience.”

“The Concept: D A R K TEMPTATION The site selected had a good corner location which opened to the road. The walls were brought down and clear glasses adorned the beauty of the parlour . As initial concepts dark colour schemes were thought on, then with much thought and the ambience that we wanted to create the darker tones of brown and white were finalised even using their glossy versions at places. With the use of such tones at the end the warm lighting showed off clearly and gave a cosy chic look to the parlour . When one envisions an ice cream parlour , it is often bright and complacent with an inviting aura to it. But this Dairy Don refutes to all of one’s Notions of a snug cosy ice cream parlour with dark foreboding space . Yet, it manages to capture one’s interest spurring them on to discover a whole new world all together . The dark walls camouflage the activity within providing the necessary privacy . At the same time , with a specific use of chocolate colour , the ambience of the funky ice cream parlour is conspicuous. Since space was a matter of Concern specified by the client, the seating in the parlour is arranged along the periphery , imparting an illusion of space in an otherwise small area of 620sq.ft. The plan is basic with all its spaces well defined with respect to their function. The service and cash counter are planned in a way that screens the ancillary spaces of the kitchen and storage. When in a dark room, one often experiences a sense of fear. But once colour and light are introduced in the right measure, the space gradually turns magical, bringing out the child within just as an ice cream would. The idea must have been to urge the customer to be more accepting of what is not always the norm. The space has achieved its unique pattern of contrasts that ingeniously conflate. As one is consumed by darkness, colour emerge, transporting one to a whole new dimension where light weds shadow and subtly urge one to create a world of fantasy. And that fantasy comes with an idea of chocolate, that embellish the whole parlour and that essential idea of melting chocolate can be seen clearly from the ceiling to the walls. The colourful panels are adding essence to it. The client’s requirement was to have their own private space within the parlour which is the most exposed part of the parlour area situated on the entrance so company’s logo is used in such a way that gives intact privacy to the owner and on the other hand the brand name can be seen in the entrance. A linear passage can be seen through the entrance so it was thought to emphasize the rest of the area and the deck is created as a result of that bourn. Passage and deck is segregated with the adoption of dark brown and light grey wooden flooring accordingly. The red chairs are adding an ambience to that light wooden floor and being eye catchy to the customers and at the same time it is breaking the monotony of dark space.”

“I needed an extremely fast turnaround on an exterior building in the backyard of our large lot. This building's purpose was to provide an outdoor dining/entertainment structure for my family and occassional guests. Kathy was immediately able to provide me with several nice options for meeting my purpose without breaking my small budget. She organized the construction contractor, added some great last minute touches, and had everything ready to go for our New Year's Day Mega-Football Party.”
