Ellen Macomber is a painter, stylist, designer, and entrepreneur living and working in New Orleans. She was born in 1977 and received her Bachelor of Interior Design from LSU. Macomber emerged as a Costume Designer upon her return to New Orleans in 2002. She began working as a fashion designer creating one of a kind pieces for local boutiques. It was her love of travel, unusual textiles, domestic and foreign architecture and rich color combinations that fueled her transition into theatre and film. Since then Macomber has designed for plays both abroad and nationally, and has worked with a variety of theatrical groups. She also works as a costumer in the film industry and is a member of the Local 478. In addition to fashion, Macomber has also made her way into the fine art realm. She has been painting on glass and experimenting with different techniques since 2001. Her glass art is on display in galleries and private collections. Currently Macomber’s art can be seen in the lobby and restaurant of Hotel Modern, Still Perkin, and SOPO.

Our work includes architectural design, community planning and community capacity building. Our aim is to create places and spaces that strike a balance between the Common Ground of timeless design principles and the Creative Edge of discovery and innovation – we call this “Building on the Common Edge”. To support this work we have developed a framework that we call the nexus. We use the Nexus framework as a tool for authentic collaboration with our clients – and our client’s client – the community-at-large. Our diverse staff collectively brings a broad range of creativity and expertise to our work. Our team consists of two principals and a dedicated team of planners, architects, landscape architects, interns and support staff. We liken ourselves to a flock of birds, each working rigorously and congruently with one another. This philosophy allows each member of the team to broaden their skill sets and gain experience on a variety of projects.

Rather than specializing in any one area of practice, the firm benefits from the experience of working across an array of project types. The firm utilizes a collaborative approach to design where client, consultant, builder and firm personnel work together to address the challenges and desires inherent to any project. MetroStudio believes that architecture must be specific and responsive to the challenges surrounding each project. Each site and project is unique; the individual conditions, be they climate, topography, program, budget, or aspiration, must all be given the proper respect and response. MetroStudio firmly believes in architecture’s ability to provide lasting solutions to the issues in our physical, social, and cultural environments. MetroStudio believes project solutions that are less resource intensive, functional, and adaptive over the long term will provide lasting value to both our clients and the community. MetroStudio has garnered national recognition for its ability to formulate inventive and expedient solutions to the problems of the built environment.
