Millard Arterberry Custom Home Design
San Quentin, CA Architects and Building Designers
October 13, 2017
I've worked with Millard on a 3 unit project in Sausalito for several years now. He has shown dedication to my project at every turn. His work is creative, sensitive to energy efficiency and sustainability (issues I care about), mindful of the setting, well integrated with the other disciplines and responsive to my needs. He has shown me he works very collaboratively and has a style that encourages compromise. I highly recommend working with Millard.

Joe was exactly what we needed for our home remodel/addition project. We came in with lots of ideas but couldn't figure out how to pull it together and make it work. Joe was a great listener and quick to pick up on our style and needs, and in no time he was bringing solutions that we would never have come up with. In addition to being a real pro, Joe is very personable and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended.

Wow! We can't really say enough about how great Matt was to work with. We came to him after already having some pretty solid ideas, but he did a fantastic job of walking the line between respecting what we had already decided and adding some suggestions that might work better. After being frustrated with a lack of response from contractors, painters, tilers, and others involved in a remodel, it was so refreshing to find Matt and his promptness in replying to our emails. Having gotten used to having to wait a few days to hear from others, it was so great to hear back from Matt within a few hours. Matt was extremely helpful with linking us up with engineers and other subcontractors, including working with the city regarding permits and passing along some discounts that he was able to get for certain supplies. We have already recommended him to a few other friends and would not hesitate to do so again in the future.
Gregory Dedona Architect
San Quentin, CA Architects and Building Designers
July 9, 2013
I'm the fortunate and proud owner of two custom homes designed by Greg Dedona. One is in Mill Valley, Marin County (1999, remodel) and the other is in McCloud, Siskiyou County (2013, tear-down & full new construction). Greg's mastery of design, materials and construction processes created two stunning, unique, buildable and affordable homes. His ability to creatively merge our family's goals, an evolving joint vision for the houses and the highly different administrative processes of these two sharply contrasting counties was something I believe very few (if any?) other architects could achieve. From the most rural contractor resources in Siskiyou to the most experienced and high-end pros in Marin, Greg demonstrated an ability to forge loose and disparate bands of craftsmen into a cohesive team. His leadership was respected by everyone involved - strikingly unusual in the often friction-plagued relationships one sees between contractor and architect. Perhaps most creatively, our McCloud home made great use of owner-procured (i.e., salvaged!) locally sourced, recycled materials - 100 yr old wood floors, replaned structural doug fir for interior trim, refurbished Wedgewood kitchen stoves etc.. In sharp contrast to architects who often scorn such an approach, Greg was invaluable in his advice on how to make these materials work. He helped us source many of them through his amazing array of contacts not just in Marin, but from Tahoe to the Oregon border. Highest possible rating...were there a lifetime achievement award for residential architecture in California, Greg Dedona has already earned it.

We used John Lum Architecture for the complete remodel of ~1000 sq ft in San Francisco. John and team were fantastic to work with. Very creative yet good at listening to our thoughts and integrating our ideas. They understand how to both design a gorgeous contemporary space while still keeping it comfortable and livable. We depended on them with a lot of design detail recommendations such as fixtures, paint, tiles and they always had great suggestions that made the process much simpler and easy to manage. They are very professional, extremely responsive and timely. There were no surprises during the entire process including on deadlines and budgets. I would strongly recommend them.

We have worked with Rob for several years now on a few projects and he always does an amazing job. In addition to being an extremely talented architect, he is very easy to work with. We completely gutted our kitchen and Rob oversaw the entire project while we were away. I had assumed that we would need to hire a kitchen designer along with an architect, but Rob was able to design a beautiful and also incredibly functional kitchen. Having lived with our new kitchen for over 2 years now, there isn't a single thing I would change. He has a great aesthetic and was also extremely helpful in picking out hardware, lighting, and appliances. We have also had him work on the outside of our house and he is currently working on several bedrooms, bathrooms and an office. Rob is very efficient and detail oriented - his drawings are very thorough which always helps make the projects go smoothly.

Tim Clark is very creative, artistic and has a good knowledge of building, carpentry and also engineering. He gets work done on time and is responsive. He has designed two of my projects. The first was a major remodel of a house in San Rafael, CA. The entire living room was torn down and a new living room and a huge master bedroom was added above the living room. The kitchen was completely remodeled as well. The remodel occurred in 2004-2005. The next project was the replacement of a carport and deck of a beach house in Inverness, CA. This project was completed around 2011. The cost of the first was around $350,000 with the second being about $60,000, including the permit.

Theresa consulted with my partner and I on a home remodel. She listened to our project vision and freely shared her professional knowledge, contractor network, she provided advice on lighting, spacial design, energy saving and green materials, furniture placement in the new site and drafted master house plans. We have lived in the same house for 16+ years, but only fell in love with it a few months ago, with the help of Theresa Tamley Architectural Design.
Daniel Ruark, Architect

Aaron Green could not have asked for a more worthy heir than Daniel Ruark, just as Frank Lloyd Wright could not have asked for a more worthy heir than Aaron Green. In 2013, I purchased a small residence on the Stanford campus designed by Aaron Green, a real gem of a house that had an outdoor tool shed in the carport area. I consulted Ruark about transforming the shed into a master bathroom that would incorporate into the main house without compromising or adding to the main plan. Ruark produced an ingenious, exquisite design, down to the last detail, and oversaw the construction, which entailed considerable challenges. The result is a stunning master bathroom that blends seamlessly into the unique architecture and color tones of the house. Daniel Ruark's professionalism, honesty, and devotion to his work are exemplary. He is a a master artist of organic architecture. Aaron Green recognized this, and the work Ruark did for me confirms it.
