Jeremy Linzee / Design
Shelter Island, NY Architects and Building Designers
June 10, 2020
Jeremy and team helped us do a full gut renovation of a 1830s home and we are thrilled with his work. He has an amazing sense for how to make living space both very functional and beautiful. Our home is now a sanctuary for us with a wonderful sense of space and light. The work they did has a timeless quality that has raised the value of our home significantly. We strongly recommend Jeremy as a rare talent who can be trusted to do an exemplary job.

Diversified Design Associates Architects, P.C.

I consider Diversified a design team, as well as a top sub-contractor, who not only identify the right construction solutions but understand a project from an architectural, engineering, and interior design perspective. I have employed Diversified to provide me with all three services, architectural plans, engineering work (including obtaining obtaining permits) and subcontracting work. Diversified does a good job in holding the subcontractors accountable that work is done well and on time. They ensure subs work in concert with one another so there are relatively few lapses in work as compared to other firms. I have not been stuck with a punch list that takes months to address. They address issues and problems right away. My level of satisfaction is so high, I have hired Diversified to work on two different houses. The first time I have ever hired a contractor more than once. The work on my first home was so well done and had such a positive impact on our curb appeal, the house was sold in 3 days! I employed them the second time when I needed a firm who could move quickly in making my fixer upper move in ready (they even helped me out in the aftermath or Super storm Sandy). While the work may be a tad more expensive, it was worth the extra investment to make sure the end product was well done. I absolutely recommend Diversified.
Anne Surchin Architect

Anne Surchin was an excellent architect for our small farmhouse -style kitchen renovation in Southold. I had seen a friend's renovation by her and was impressed enough to then hire her for our kitchen. She is extremely knowledgeable about architectural styles and costs and was able to work within our means. She suggested an excellent builder who kept prices down. As a woman, she was especially mindful of my needs and comfort in the kitchen and was imaginative at suggesting ideas when I didn't have a clue. I would highly recommend Anne for those who have an appreciation of good architecture and would like an architect who has the same.

We hired Read to be our architects and designers for a full gut renovation of a Brooklyn townhouse and could not be more satisfied with this decision. We were first drawn by their aesthetics and then quickly came to appreciate several other aspects of their work including their communication skills, and creative problem solving. Their design is exactly what we were looking for and makes us feel instantly relaxed. It strikes a subtle balance between modern aesthetics and historic details. What was also very important to me is that every square inch of the house is optimized, there is no lost space. Come and his team have been very upfront and transparent throughout. They shared with us a clear roadmap for the project from start to finish, used a retro planning tool to keep track of everything and keep everyone accountable... a little bit overwhelming at first but very efficient! When we faced challenges from city agencies, they quickly came up with several solutions to resolve them. When creating a brand new staircase they found a creative way to achieve the look we wanted for a fraction of the price. At the end of the day, a gut renovation in NYC can be a very overwhelming project and working with Read has allowed us to alleviate a lot of the stress related to this project while staying within our set budget. Also, they are fun to work with!

After researching and interviewing several other firms in the area, my husband and I were delighted to meet Russ Campaign. Our project was challenging and demanded a level of creativity that Russ met and exceeded. His ability to execute our vision within the confines of what could be done in the project as well as keeping the design practical in terms of cost was excellent. I would unconditionally recommend his firm, and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Complete remodel of mid-century home interior. Chris Arelt is a grad of Yale School of Architecture, and his knowledge and creativity show in the results of this project. Ask him for photos of our award-winning kitchen. The details and custom cabinetry are superb - he listened to our needs and wants, and got it right!

Creating our new home with Jason Poremba, was a terrific experience. And now that we are living in it, our home has exceeded all expectations, due to his thoughtful design. The entire design and build process was very collaborative. Jason took time to listen and develop a relationship with our entire family, so that he understood how we live, and then designed an inspiring space that works perfectly with our lifestyle. His design expertise is evident in the way he successfully balanced a rather traditional exterior with the more contemporary, clean lines that we wanted for the interior. And his custom design details provided a really personalized style. Jason was mindful of our budget and helped us determine which elements of the house to prioritize. And throughout the project he provided options for managing costs without sacrificing quality. Jason’s enthusiasm and creativity made it a pleasure working with him - we highly recommend him!
Duo Dickinson, architect
Shelter Island, NY Architects and Building Designers
June 29, 2012
We found Duo Dickinson from a search on the web for "award-winning small house architect." His name was the first to pop up. Duo has a splendid website, which includes essays from his prolific writing, radio programs and books. One theme evident with Duo is his work is about the client, not him. He also has a long resume of houses small and grand. And several of his books praise small homes, and practical remodeling fundamentals. We chose to interview him first and never looked at any other architect. After a first date, we were asked to complete a long survey defining who we are and how we see ourselves living in our new home. Then Duo began conversations with the zoning board. Not waiting until we had a plan but from the concept. Duo is also candid and upfront about costs - his and the project's. At this point, since our first meeting in January, we have completed a lengthy survey, sent scores of jpeg photos of designs we like, edited several phases of sketches, and have had three meetings with Duo. He has had several conversation with zoning officials and met with them twice so far. The rest of our work has been done via email. As of now, June, we have reached our latest and most comprehensive version of the cottage. A model is being built to present to neighbors and related zoning boards. The process has been fun, thorough, efficient, and personal. When we ask for a change we get it. His communication is excellent. He is responsive, smart, astute, but plain-speaking. We feel fortunate to have Duo to present our plans in the upcoming approval process. We know we are in capable, kind, experienced and talented hands. And best of all, the cottage will be splendid.
