On a ferry ride in Seattle, I was thumbing through a magazine when some photos of a landscape design caught my eye. After a few minutes my attention shifted to the amazing house behind it. We were looking for an architect for a Summer/Retirement home we wanted to build on three rural acres we owned on Vashon Island, WA. When I read the credits, I discovered that Bill Chester was based on nearby Bainbridge Island. I called Bill and we arranged for a brief Sunday morning, get acquainted conference call with my wife and I. Well, a twenty minute call turned into three hours of brainstorming with ideas flying! We hired Bill on the spot and never interviewed anyone else. Throughout the entire process, Bill listened to our ideas and looked at the scrap we had collected and came back with improvements on all of it. He is a seasoned professional that we were grateful to have, especially since we were trying some unusual ideas that needed to be thought out, planned and engineered properly. As absentee owners (our primary home is in Los Angeles) we felt very secure knowing Bill was on site to supervise the construction crew. To this day, we're still friends with the job supervisor, who treated the house he was building as if were his own. We could not be happier with our finished home. We've had zero problems of any kind in the four years since we moved in. The design draws lots of attention and was recently chosen for the cover of a new coffee table book on green architecture, "Leeding the Way" by E. Ashley Rooney. Very exciting! Bill was accurate and honest with the budget and always let us know in advance what some idea we had would cost to execute, so we could make an informed decision if we wanted to move forward. I would recommend Bill in a New York minute to anyone and we have. Construction went 3 months longer than we had hoped, primarily due to staff cut backs in the King County permit office and our out of the way location for inspectors to get to. Other than that, the nightmares that we were told would happen when we decided to build a house from scratch never came to pass. We attribute that to Bill and the care and planning he put in to our project.

After much searching and disappointment trying to find an interior designer, we found Brian and believe we hit gold. We hired Brian to redesign our existing kitchen and master bath. Neither of us had ever remodelled a house. We had an idea of how we wanted the areas to feel but didn't know how to make it happen. Brian asked the right questions about our family to come up with a number of different options on how we can make the best use of our spaces. He really thought of everything when it came to functionality especially for the kitchen; for us, our kitchen really is the heart of the home and not just somewhere to eat. We believe the final product that was provided will help make the remodelling process as economical and smooth as possible. Brian was easily accessible during his design process and afterward asking us the status of our project.

We've toured the residential and commercial projects created on Bainbridge Island by Coates Design, and have followed their work for years. Our office was in the same building, and we often stopped in to learn more about their projects. We've always been impressed by their great architectural sense of aesthetics, and their ability to create innovative work that blends well into the surroundings of the project location. Very professional, very pleasant and very accomplished.

They say it says a lot when a contractor hires an Architect to do design on his personal home, and it should say a lot about Skip. Skip did a great job listening to my wife and I dream up the list of remodel priorities we had for our out dated 60's waterfront rambler, and put into design exactly what we were hoping to accomplish. He was able to project not only his own costs in Architect fees accurately, but was also very savvy of current construction costs and kept his design in great relation to our budget. I highly recommend Skip's services and will look forward to our next great project together.
Rhodes Architecture + Light

My wife and I have a difficult lot to build a house on due to its irregular slope, steep in some areas. In order to have a view of Puget Sound the main floor had to be as high as possible. Before hiring Rhodes Architecture + Light we met with a few builders who do their own design work. They were unable to come up with an acceptable way to achieve the floor height we need. This drove us to look for an architect. We selected Tim Rhodes because we liked his portfolio of completed projects and after meeting him felt we could trust him to do the job. Tim came up with a very clever design that incorporated all our requirements. We've been living in the house 14 months and are quite pleased. Tim's design gets many compliments from first time visitors. The only reason I didn't give Rhodes Architecture + Light five stars is cost estimation and control. Our construction cost ended up 40% above my desired target. To be fair this is common when building a house.
Soundesign Group Architects, PLLC

I was referred to Sounddesign Group by a friend and selected them after interviewing 3 architects. After the initial referral, I was attracted to SDG because of the variety of home design styles shown on their website. I didn't want my project to be pigeonholed as a "type". I wanted my design professional to be open-minded and easy to work with, and I definitely found that in Eric Terry. He is one of the most easy-going people I have ever worked with, but at the same time he gets things done. The process was simple and fun, and we got everything we wanted even though some of it required both Eric and our builder to think outside the box. It turned out to be a bit of a complicated project, but you never would have known it from Eric's attitude. His firm took everything in stride. We also utilized Sounddesign's interior design specialist, Kirsten, for some interior help. She was similarly delightful and easy to work with, even within my budget constraints and my desire to do most things on my own. The finished project is beautiful, and we had a great time during the design and build process. I cannot recommend these folks highly enough.

Top quality design. High quality supplies used. Shannon Nicole Design finished the loose ends of another job that we had unfinished by bringing in furniture, custom dinning table and finishing touches. Shannon Nicole Design then did a full renovation of our guest bathroom. The finished product is unreal. Italian tile, floating toilet seat, big oversized mirror, high end shower fixtures bring this bathroom to a whole new level.
