My husband and I first hired Unger and Mahns in 2000 to build our 5500 Sq. ft. house in Rumson,NJ.The design was classic, sophisticated, tasteful and timeless."Michael and Michael" guided us through the design and construction and were available on site whenever the builder needed them. When we sold the house in 2008,the structural engineer that the buyers hired to inspect the house said it was one of the best built homes he had ever inspected. In 2006,we hired them again to do the plans for our summer home in Cape May, N.J. They designed our fabulous dutch colonial that looks like it is 100 years old.We are consistently told that is it one of the prettiest homes in town and not a day goes by where someone doesn't stop and comment on it.Our builder in CM said that the plans he received from U and M were the most detailed and complete set of plans he had ever worked with. They designed the new Rumson Country Club Pool House. It is a masterpiece! I am a real estate agent and my husband is as type "A" as they come.We are tough customers and pretty demanding. We recommend U and M 100% and feel they are worth their weight in gold. They are not the least expensive in the area but you get what you pay for. They are thorough, knowledgeable and very experienced.

QMA Design did a major exterior renovation on our house which included new siding, doors, windows, chimney, steps, porch as well as addition of a second story terrace, complete renovation of the front of house to create additional parking space and new landscaped areas. Todd and his project managers and workers did a beautiful job. After the job and to date Todd is extremely responsive if problems develop (and no major problems have developed) or if other new work is needed. I highly recommend this company.

after looking at hundreds of kitchen islands i found one on that was completely different than all the generic ones. it was a beautiful craftman cherry wood piece of furniture 82x45 that could be handed down through the family for generations. i contacted him and he made drawings of the table which i had made (we live across the country from each other). subsequently i had many questions, having never done a kitchen remodel before. richard took all my calls, was so helpful with any question i had. we talked about countertops, electrical outlets, hardware, and in the process i realized i had found not only a beautiful blueprint for a magnificent and unique kitchen worktable (we never say "island" around here anymore!) but a very decent man who was a delight to talk to. his work is precise, clean, has a "forever" feel, and his personality matches his skills with design and wood. he's a great guy to work with. i couldn't be happier with the outcome.

We had the pleasure of working with Sam when we were built our house in LBI and could not have been happier. Throughout the process everything went so smoothly. The design and flow of the house has worked out perfectly and his attention to detail is beyond what we expected. I would not hesitate to hire Sam for any project we might consider doing in the future.

My husband and I were lucky to find Balestri Architects during our search for an architect to fully renovate our run down loft in Tribeca, NYC, a number of years ago. Carlo supported our project, not only through ideation and design, but through the bidding process, helping select a contractor, working closely with the chosen contractor during construction and being very present on the site until every last detail on the punch list was fixed, perfect and permits closed/received. We feel like we received the services expected from a large firm but with the intimacy and knowledge of everyone on our project that one gets from a small, young and agile firm. From beginning to end Carlo was professional, hard working, and impressively detail oriented. He was our advocate; he honored our budget limits and pushed us when needed. We were continually impressed with his knowledge of the sometimes frustrating and long process needed to be followed in NYC; permits, codes, DOB processes, and even helping with the internal approvals required within our small but challenging coop board (which was our entire building as there were only 4 owners). We were even more impressed and excited by the creativity of the design. Carlo managed to meet all of our needs as well as desires while maintaining equal focus and energy on the less glamorous but equally important details like lighting, electrical work, etc. What we hadn’t anticipated was his invaluable input on the interior design elements, and the impressive amount of time he spent with us looking at tiles, stone, fixtures and so much more. We have since moved to a very old home in Westchester NY that required a lot of work. We have used Balestri Architects again for a number of projects. We worked through an entire 'Master Plan', and have to date, moved ahead on 1st floor work. We are almost done with the project which includes structural work, brand new kitchen, entry way, powder room and more. Again, we are very happy with every aspect of the project and Balestri Architects has proven to be able to work with our modern loft space as well as an old 1870's barn. Photos can be found by searching for Laight Street and Fargo Lane. We recommend Balestri Architects to anyone and everyone who asks.

Verity Frizzell has worked for us on numerous occasions, and has continued to go above and beyond expectations. She was extremely helpful and cooperative throughout the process, including the sometimes difficult township requirements. Verity stayed aware and concerned about each of the projects for which we hired her. Her professionalism and expertise are exceptional. She was an excellent hire.

The services provided included providing plans for the renovation of our 1932 Craftsman Home. We had weekly office design meetings and on site meetings to develop plans to suit the home and the neighborhood. SOME Architects had knowledge and resources regarding Craftsman homes and also took into account our specific needs. SOME Architects assisted in the selection of choosing a reputable builder, arranged meetings for us to interview local contractors. Once we selected a contractor, and the plans were completed and approved by the town we kept SOME Architects involved in a supervisory position. SOME Architect also is also a great resource for local businesses necessary for the many design elements and professionals There were many times that we had questions and concerns that the professional expertise if SOME Architects was needed. Our best advice to potential clients would be to keep SOME Architects involved until the project is completed. We love our home and we receive lots of compliments from family, friends, neighbors, and people passing by when we are outside in our garden.

We are nearly at the end of our project using Rob Musgnug first as our architect and then choosing to use him as our general contractor. Rob listened to our ideas and came up with plans that reflected our needs and wishes very accurately. He was helpful along the way with suggestions and ideas. Hid attention to detail is excellent and he has great design sense. He was very accessible and easy to work with. Our new home turned out fantastic and has the custom look we wanted. His architecture prices were very fair and we looked at quite a few companies.

Cathy Knight was the architect for a major renovation and restoration of our 1895 three-story, seven-bedroom, eight-bath home on a two acre in-town site. The project entailed complete rebuilding of the house and several additions and new outbuildings. Infrastructure issues addressed were complete rebuilding of the foundation and successful waterproofing of the basement, rebuilding of chimmneys serving 8 fireplaces, rewiring and replumbing the entire house, replacing and refinishing of floors throughout, rebuilding stairways and securing and replacing failing structural beams. Four new bathrooms were added and 4 bathrooms were renovated. Interior finishes and molding were replaced or restored. New HVAC was installed. Site planning and reconfiguration of the gardens were part of the project. The architect served as project manager for the 18-month construction period. This complex project was magnificently, creatively and efficiently excecuted by the architect and her staff.

Thank you for thoroughly covering shutters the way you do on your site. My wife and I were close to finishing the building of our home in a historic neighborhood in Raleigh, NC. We went through painstaking effort to make our new house fit the neighborhood and had to pull our builder (who was not accustomed to this type of design) along the way. I came across your site looking for examples of how to hang shutters properly so we could convey how they should look. It goes to your point about how most modern builders simply don't understand the importance and functionality of real operable shutters. Thank you again, and keep up the good work.
