David Heide Design Studio

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsFebruary 15, 2013
David and his team provide an outstanding level of expertise and service. We hired them to help us figure out how to slowly renovate our 100 year old home, and they helped us identify what was important to us, develop a mission statement for how we approach renovations, and then they collaborated with a team of contractors and vendors to put together a comprehensive book describing our home, its current condition, what needs repairs, and how much those repairs would cost. They also included several options for the areas that we are interested in remodeling down the road. We have also used them to pick out and install window treatments that respect the heritage of the house. They are certainly not the cheapest option out there, but they cannot be beat in terms of excellence and expertise!
Fluidesign Studio

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJuly 30, 2013
Our project, which took approximately 3 1/2 months from start to completion, included both a kitchen and basement remodel. Anchor Builders recommended that we use Fluidesign for our design work. Fluidesign did the layout and consulted with us on all phases of the project. They were available and helpful at every phase of construction. In addition to producing an excellent floor plan, they assisted with major and minor decisions including selection of appliances, cabinets, lighting fixtures, carpeting, paint colors, etc. All the options available would have been very overwhelming without their help. The design team was always attentive. Shelly and Carrie helped us transfer concepts into reality. They did so by listening to us and offering us choices that reflected our wishes and their excellent taste, We feel very confident in recommending their services to others.

Andrea Swan - Swan Architecture
Architects and Building Designers in Watertown, MN
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsSeptember 13, 2012
Andrea Swan took a dark, dated, depressing space and created a bright, functional modern apartment. She oversaw every aspect of the project and elegantly solved any surprises that emerged during the remodeling. She worked brilliantly with my contractor and was always creative, knowledgeable, respectful, constructive and courteous -- and demanding on behalf of her client.

Jim Kuiken, Jim Kuiken Design, is a talented home designer who has won multi-awards from his industry peers -- this is the highest praise a designer can receive. Jim's work is noted for its roots in nature, use of light, innovative use of materials and an uncanny facility to design for the landscape. His influences include Prairie and California styles, and are represented by original,, function use of space. A Jim Kuiken design brings the outside in, and creates living spaces that you want to spend time in. The capacity in which I worked with Jim Kuiken Design has been as a colleague in the building industry and marketing/communications specialist. The cost of the project only refers to the projects that Jim Kuiken Design works on.

Partners4Design was able to "see" our space in a way no other designer I worked with. Their design is beautiful and functional - we are very pleased with the work. Rick, the general contractor, is a delight. I definitely recommend their work from start to finish!
SKD Architects

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsJune 28, 2012
I want to start by saying that not only would I use SKD architects again, I would ONLY use them. I tore down and replaced the home I'd lived in for twenty years. Steve Kleineman and I began with a discussion where I described my thoughts for my new home. He came up with a drawing which was close. One meeting later he had designed exactly what I wanted. Steve included the level of detail I desired, and, designed several pieces of furniture for specific spots, each on it's own, a masterpiece. My home is custom, inside and out. You will not see this home anywhere else. He designs for the person. Additionally, there is nothing trendy about his designs. I doubt that fifty years from now anybody will be able to say that this home is "typical" of homes built in the early 2000s. Outside, Steve carried out details from the inside making his plan cohesive and beautiful. He was careful in his design not to hurt existing old trees and was not only respectful of my existing lot, he made the very most of it. I had no idea for the entire first twenty years that I lived in my home that my lot could have the beauty it does today. When building began, Steve worked closely with the builder to insure that my vision was carried out meticulously. It felt as though he was working on his own home, that's how involved and accessible he was. Because of it, my home is perfect. He listened closely to my needs and was easy to get along with. When I made changes, he kept the up-charges to a minimum, in some cases actually reducing the price. Construction on my 5,000 square foot home took less than one year from the day they tore down the old house (not as emotional as I'd have thought to see it go) until moving in to my new warm lovely home; slightly under 11 months to be exact. I have seen larger homes, but never any done with any better attention to detail. It is perfect. Feel free to call if you need additional information about this build, but know that I felt it was as easy and enjoyable as it could possibly have been. The only thing I enjoy more is living here.

Jean Rehkamp Larson is talented, patient, articulate, creative, brilliant, practical, systematic and delightful. We live in a 1908 Farmhouse in Minnesota, which we purchased 14 years ago. We made very few improvements during those years. Our 3 kids were in school and then starting college and life was too busy. I knew we eventually would get to updating and remodeling our home so I kept looking for possible architects. Jean wrote the book "Farmhouse Book". I immediately realized that she understood the elements that I wanted to preserve and maintain, yet update to make more livable and comfortable for our expanding family, as kids come home with partners and maybe eventually grandchildren. This project is 2+ years in the works mainly because of unforeseen surprises behind the walls i.e. lead pipes, extension cords in the wall used for electricity, porch walls that were structurally unsound and could not pass inspection as well as the increased expenses because of those surprises that required refinancing and prioritizing. As well as decision making difficulties between 2 very stubborn people. :) We are coming into our final push to finish the kitchen, cabinets and trim work. We have remodeled the upstairs bathroom, we have moved the kitchen back to its original location from its 1970s tacky remodel to incorporate a bathroom on the main floor, Put in a main floor handicap accessible bathroom, wrap around porch, new entryway, sunroom off the kitchen, geothermal heating and cooling.
