“This is my go-to architectural firm. They helped me re-invent a 1960's ranch that was built in the middle of an historic district. The home was originally built as a duplex, a feature I wanted to maintain. That meant, Bird & Kamback had to gut one side and reconfigure it to meet all my life-style requirements and yet maintain the exterior footprint due to historic overlay restrictions. I ended up with an open kitchen, dining and lounging area under a beamed vaulted ceiling. Daryl Bird called for a huge arched window in the kitchen area instead of upper kitchen cabinets (a key request of mine). Other rooms -- a paneled Parisian-ish drawing room and adjacent library add more human-scaled cozy spaces to my half of the duplex. In all cases, ceiling design was made interesting and taken to the ultimate height the roof slopes would allow. Darryl worked in a double-sided fireplace. I love dining and cooking in a room with a crackling fire. Many architectural details were added and challenges overcome to create just the living space I dreamed of having.”
