“My husband and I were in search of the perfect house that had to satisfy both our needs. The only thing we seemed to agree on was that the location had to be in Marin County. After almost 7 long years of renting, we finally found the perfect location on a street we were both in love with but unfortunately the house was far from what either one of us liked as it was way too small for our family of four and the one bathroom was the size of a phone booth! We then searched for an architect that would be able to give us both what we wanted and could see our vision and blend it together. After interviewing several different architects and feeling like they didn’t “get us” we moved on and were fortunate enough to have met Eric who was a referral from our real estate agent. He listened and really understood the look and feel each one of us wanted. When we saw the plans he designed for us, we were beyond delighted! He took our 1400 square foot home and turned it into a 3500 sqft. dream home that has everything we both had always wanted in the most creative and family friendly way. He put a lot of thought and care into our house and we couldn’t be happier with his brilliance, creativity, work ethic, honesty, and dedication.”

“The staff at Ohashi Design Studio helped me design my kitchen/living space. I wanted to open up our galley kitchen to be able to see our incredible view from the kitchen. They came up with a design I never imagined could work so well. Rather than just remove a wall, they moved the kitchen, changed it to a more functional shape and not only opened up the view, but made the living space feel like we were outside. I have been especially impressed with their level of service. They listened to my dreams and goals and turned it into a reality beyond what I'd hoped for. They were available anytime I needed guidance during construction and made sure the project was built down to the finest details. They helped me find a contractor and oversaw the bidding process. “My HOA hired Klopf Architecture to design new fences, front gates, lighting and paint color plans for our condominiums. They were designed in 1963 by Quincy and Jones and built in 1964 by Eichler Homes. Replacements in the 1990s did not serve the mid-century aesthetic well -- but owners did not want to return to the light-inhibiting original thin-line panel fences and gates. The Klopf team produced three outstanding options. The one we selected includes brilliant design features like frosted glass doors with 1/4-in spaces between fence boards to allow light in along with clear glass doors for the pool area with 1/2-in spaces between boards surrounding it. The overall design and color plan is clean and elegant. John Klopf and his team could not have been more friendly and flexible throughout. We look forward to implementing this design over the next few years.”

We came to him after already having some pretty solid ideas, but he did a fantastic job of walking the line between respecting what we had already decided and adding some suggestions that might work better. After being frustrated with a lack of response from contractors, painters, tilers, and others involved in a remodel, it was so refreshing to find Matt and his promptness in replying to our emails. Having gotten used to having to wait a few days to hear from others, it was so great to hear back from Matt within a few hours. Matt was extremely helpful with linking us up with engineers and other subcontractors, including working with the city regarding permits and passing along some discounts that he was able to get for certain supplies. “we worked with Mark Brand Architecture for the remodel of our house. It was a complete remodel with using different colors of stucco instead of the original wood siding. This gave the house a complete modern look. Mark suggested to use of huge windows which was only possible with using some railings. This was a smart idea. It brings the woodsy scenery inside and feels like we are living in a tree house. The inside of the house was completely gutted, some walls pulled down. Again the feeling is very modern but the materials used make it very warm. There are also a lot of details which make the house more pleasant to live in. The result is not only stunning but we love living in it.”

In 2013, I purchased a small residence on the Stanford campus designed by Aaron Green, a real gem of a house that had an outdoor tool shed in the carport area. I consulted Ruark about transforming the shed into a master bathroom that would incorporate into the main house without compromising or adding to the main plan. Ruark produced an ingenious, exquisite design, down to the last detail, and oversaw the construction, which entailed considerable challenges. The result is a stunning master bathroom that blends seamlessly into the unique architecture and color tones of the house. Daniel Ruark's professionalism, honesty, and devotion to his work are exemplary. He is a a master artist of organic architecture. Aaron Green recognized this, and the work Ruark did for me confirms it.”

Not only an excellent sense of design architecturally, but also for interiors, fixtures, etc. Thorough practical knowledge base and expertise in dealing with the multitude of City / regulatory issues. Everything - design, budgets, timing, etc - is thought through carefully, and from many angles. Thoroughly receptive to client preferences, but will also be directive when needed. As his client, I'm am never in doubt that my interests are his highest priority.
Plans and designs are created, stored and presented electronically - in 3D renderings as well as floor plans. Easy for those of us who are 3D-challenged to follow.
