“It was a pleasure and a lot of fun working with Marcus. He is a great designer; and also showed much flexibility with any desired changes to the original design. He is an exceptional problem solver, which comes in handy. As we all know they are going to pop up here and there on any project. Marcus worked really well with our contractor, too. The project Marcus designed for us is like a dream home. Marcus showed creativity, attention to detail and discipline where needed. We are thrilled with how the remodel of our mid-century modern home came out. We thank Marcus for his design and dedication. It was a lot of fun doing it, but even more fun living in it now that it is done. I highly recommend Marcus as an architect. “We happened to meet Thayer at a party where we discussed his architectural style and were intrigued that he also designed furniture. So, when we needed a solution for a purpose-built vacation rental house to be designed for a very small lot in Yountville, CA, we felt that his attention to small detail would serve us well. The house we envisaged needed to be within our town’s 1,000 sq ft floor area ratio constraint, sensitive to the needs of marketing to vacation renters, and most importantly insure privacy for our back yard which shares a fence. At our first meeting, we tossed around ideas for the project, budget, and timetable. Thayer was sensitive to our ideas and our needs. At the follow-up meeting, we were very pleasantly surprised by how innovatively Thayer and his team were able to integrate our ideas into a house design that was architecturally attractive, infinitely practical, and complied with our budget constraints. Thayer was also able to develop an instant rapport with our small town’s design review board, his very professional presentation to the board was received very well, and our project was easily approved at the first hearing. Over the years, we have been interested to observe our guests’ reactions when checking in for the first time to the house. We are frequently asked for the name of the Architect. One of our early guests called it, “A jewel box.” That says it all. We have referred Thayer Hopkins Architects to our friends without reservation.”
