After interviewing several firms we chose Klopf for our project and can’t be happier with the result. “As a repeat customer over appx 3 years I would like to highlight not only DDB's creative engineering talent and professionalism, but their understated civic commitment toward aiding vulnerable communities in need of life-safety building improvements. From single-fam to 50+ unit developments, our nonprofit has worked with DDB on design solutions and construction estimates to rehab naturally-occurring, low-income mixed-use buildings in some of the most restrictive building jurisdictions in the country, all of which faced frankly staggering code-compliance challenges. Not all of these low-income buildings are going to win beauty contests, so we are probably not the typical reviewer/customer here, but believe me you guys, bringing such structures into conformance at all - let alone affordably so - requires a number of intersecting talents that is exceedingly rare to find under a single roof. While we work with many building professionals and design firms, and have our own in-house architects, DDB's detailed construction estimates in particular have proven invaluable and without peer. Government subsidy for several projects requires exacting estimates of a type that tbh often exceed that in use for private projects. To this end Tyler Kobick's work and feedback in particular have proven invaluable to us. Finally, our nonprofit makes no revenue from these projects; we have no skin in the game except to alleviate the present housing crisis by producing safer buildings for working-class people including many artists. Our assessment here is based exclusively on performance to date for these communities of owners and tenants whose housing is at stake. Highly recommend.”

“We hired Erik and his group for a major renovation that unified four rooms constituting one wing of our house, including dining and kitchen. Major structural work was required, and we went for the highest end in the quality of appliances, cabinetry, counters ... the works. So a big project! We could not be more pleased with the results. Erik had a web site devoted to tracking our project's progress, and held weekly meetings to review status. Our target was to move back in after 3 months, and there was a one week slip due to unforeseeable complications. One week off in the 3 month estimate, so I was impressed. Erik went the extra mile on a number of occasions. For example, when a manufacturer's installation instructions turned out to a give poor result, he found a way to make it flawlessly beautiful by hiring a custom stainless steel designer/metal worker. When we said that the door we wanted had a certain property that turned out only to be available in a Swiss made product, he sent off to Switzerland to have it shipped. And on and on. This project looks great, and wows our family and friends. But beyond even this, it has changed our lives now that we can accommodates both formal and informal interaction.and collaboration at almost any scale. We have a space that simply makes people happy! Even though satisfied with the results, many homeowners seem to look back on their expensive remodel experience with a sizable dose of bitterness and regret. My advise: don't mess around.
