Through careful analysis, Steven and Cathi House mold each project into a unique, magical and harmonious environment. Deeply sensitive to elements of form, color, natural light, and movement, House + House creates a tangible spirit within each home, molded to the process of living. Committed to sustainability, their work focuses on enduring design principles incorporating natural light and ventilation, passive solar heating, grey/rain water systems, recycled materials, the development of microclimates and strong connections to the outdoors. Schwartz and Architecture is an award-winning architecture and interior design studio founded on a commitment to a highly interactive design process with our clients. We pride ourselves on architectural solutions of clarity, economy, and grace, but always within the pragmatics of a client’s budget, schedule, and needs. In fact, negotiating these often-competing, real-world demands inspires our creativity. Our design sensibility is characterized by the choreography of movement, light, threshold, and material textures to create spaces that unfold into complex yet unified environments. We are particularly adept at managing complex permitting and construction processes and working with fixed schedules and resources. The ethos of Schwartz and Architecture is a reflection of its Founder + Principal’s unique combination of interests and skills. Neal Schwartz completed dual masters degrees in Architecture and Public Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the Kennedy School of Government respectively. The combination of these two disciplines establishes the foundations of our practice: the creativity to explore our client’s needs in ways that surpass their expectations, and a devotion to rigorous management of complex design, permitting, and construction processes. In addition to heading the firm, Schwartz has been actively involved in teaching for 20 years, most recently as Professor in Architecture at the California College of the Arts (CCA).

We are architects of homes. Our projects range from small remodels to large scale residences. On every project our mission is to collaborate with our clients to understand the unique context of their project, and together create an inspirational, sustainable, and lasting addition to the built environment. WA design was established in 1985 by David Stark Wilson, AIA. Our design philosophy emphasizes the inter-relationship of building and site. Each design begins as a considered response to a set of criteria dictated by the site and client. Although progressive in approach, our designs draw heavily on the vernacular building of the area in which we are working. Ordering principles for a given project borrow from their context and often metaphorically relate to the natural landscape. This connects our buildings to their specific site and circumstance in a meaningful way. A crucial component of the overall design objective on each project is to apply the design of sustainable and solar features as an integral component of the architecture. From initial building siting concepts through building organization and material selection, each phase is approached with sustainable ideas at the forefront of the design decisions.

Architect Lorin Hill and associates emphasize pragmatic and creative design solutions to variety of design opportunities throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Every project presents its own unique challenges, and we find something compelling in every project, no matter what size. Excellent design only reaches its full potential if it can be effectively translated into a completed construction project that meets scheduling and budget goals. We promote a pro-active approach aimed at achieving and maintaining good "chemistry" among all players in the process: the client, the design team, and the contractor. Our particular strengths include responsiveness, thoroughness, communication and flexibility. We provide a continuum of services that take a project from the broad overview (a master plan) to the specifics of construction detailing and specifications, with active involvement in the construction process. We are committed to environmentally sustainable practices in our work and often incorporate the Build-it-Green GreenPoints Rating System into our projects. First and foremost, the renovation of existing structures minimizes the waste of resources. We promote the use of locally-sourced, renewable and recycled building materials as well as building systems and site design that favor water and energy conservation. Improved indoor air quality and the reduction of contaminants contribute to healthier living environments. Our primary focus is residential projects, with an emphasis on high-quality design and creative, pragmatic solutions. Much of our work involves the comprehensive renovation and expansion of existing homes. We draw upon the inherent strengths of a building to produce improved living spaces, healthier environments, and added real estate value. Other project types include commercial tenant improvements and mixed-use developments.
