I worked with Cooter Ramsey to design a beach house we are going to build on Harbor Island in SC; at a reasonable cost. If we designed from scratch the cost would have been much higher. I had looked into buying stock plans online but those actually ended up being more and I didn't have opportunity to customize or work with a great architect with experience designing houses- that have actually been built on these Islands. We used one of their stock plans as a place to start: "The Bradley", Cooter assisted with a significant modification to meet my needs. We inverted the floor plan to take advantage of the sunset views and the nesting birds in the rookery; with beautiful decks; In addition, to optimizing the views, he also focused on preserving the natural habitat for the nesting birds - Cooter was able to maximize the space -and provide two master suites since my sister and I will be living there together and a total of 5 bedrooms (lot of family to visit); In addition, he was able to keep the plan comfortable and functional. The architectural review committee on the Island has strict requirements which he was mindful of- so we don't need to do major adjustment when applying for permits. As a woman, I was very happy working with Cooter; I felt respected and he listened to my thoughts and ideas, gave suggestions that were appropriate and would be practical and money saving for construction costs. Cooter did an awesome job with the final product. We did all our meetings virtually since I am 14 hours away and that allowed for flexibility to accommodate my busy work schedule. I am excited to see the finished product; this is the first big hurdle taking on a huge project! I loved seeing the final design and especially seeing the 3D versions they were able to create- it really brings the whole thing to life; as I am a very visual person. I also appreciated his patience with me since my work schedule is very demanding and I like to think thing through step by step! Thank you, Cooter for the great design!

Mr. Ramsey did a fantastic job modifying the plan we selected to make sure we got the most out of our beach view lot. His attention to the small details did not go unnoticed! Also with my wife and I not being locals, Mr. Ramsey was extremely helpful in supplying us with a list of potential general contractors to interview for our build. We customized our rough cottage plans with Bill Harris who was great to work with and accomodating in all phases of the plan design. He offered ideas that we had not thought of and was very willing to work with us incorporating New York State requirements. We worked with Bill (Sensitive Information Hidden) and his team on our new home in the Beaufort area. Bill was very easy to work with and very responsive. He listened to how we wanted to live and incorporated it into his work. At 63 years old, my wife and I decided to take take the plunge and create our "family compound" at Brays Island to foster family memories for generations. I researched many "low country" architects and Allison Ramsey caught my attention. They have published many of their floorplans in a series of high quality books so I purchased several and was exposed to a vast array of floorplans and accompanying relevant architecture. We found one floorplan that was almost ideal so we used it as a base for ours. What was shocking was that all I had to do was pay a very reasonable fee to use the original plan plus any time for modifications. Bill Harris, our primary contact, walked us through the design process effortlessly and navigated a fairly rigorous, 5-step architectural review with Brays, of which he was intimately familiar. Coincidentally, we have good friends from Orlando who are also building at Brays yet, although I am sure they have also designed a beautiful home, paid multiples what we did for our plans. We are ecstatic with our end product and to do it over again, we wouldn't change a thing. And as a bonus, Bill introduced us to an up and coming builder who we are equally thrilled with. Allison Ramsey knocked it out of the park.

We highly recommend Allison Ramsey Architects to design and detail your next custom home. Bill Harris and his associates are well versed in traditional low country layouts and details along with other architectural styles. They listen to all of your wants and needs and synergise them with architecturally correct applications. Moreover, we had a difficult lot configuration but Bill worked tirelessly to fit our home on the lot and maintain curb appeal. Moreover, they put together a team of professionals in the landscaping and structural engineering disciplines for a one stop seamless experience. Although this is our personal residence, as a custom builder for over 35 years, working with other architects in the northern U.S., you will not have a better group of professionals to work with.

Cooter and Robby just finished wrapping up plans for our future southern home, and we could not have had a better experience. We tweaked one of their plans a little bit, and their collaboration, design sense, attention to detail, and even their house placement on the lot was / will be perfect. As we went through the process, they kept fine tuning the subtle things also along the way, and they always went the extra mile for us. A fun and easy experience!

We had a great experience. We found plans on line. Selected a Palmetto Plan and made a few changes. Got a pricing set for our builder. Found that we were within budget, made a few more changes based on our contractors advice then got final price and started construction. The whole process worked well. We finished construction in a little over a year and love our new home. Working with Allison Ramsey saved us thousands of dollars in design fees and almost six months in time.
