AMD Architecture

We hired Angela Dean of AMD Architecture to help us in the renovation of a home in the higher avenues of Salt Lake City. She, in turn, referred us to Living Home Construction. Both Angela and Living Home were great to work with. We have previously worked with excellent architects and contractors and had high hopes and expectations. AMD Architecture worked with us on our floor plan and renovations, taking into account our preferences, and making insightful recommendations regarding size of rooms, number of bathrooms, and suggestions regarding ceiling height and the costs of all of these decisions. AMD designed the project with energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in mind, and met all of our expectations. AMD provided personal and professional services, made prompt changes upon request, and provided three dimensional plans to assist us in visualizing the project. We made changes during construction which added costs, and AMD assisted us in evaluating these changes. We highly recommend AMD Architecture and would not hesitate to use them in the future.

We selected Angela Dean (AMD Architecture) in 2001 to do a complete remodel and expansion of a concrete block home we purchased. We specifically selected Angela because of her commitment to sustainable design. We were also particularly interested in incorporating the “Not So Big House” design philosophy espoused by Sarah Susanka. Angela was very creative in designing a home that met our needs and desires while retaining major portions of the old house in order to minimize construction waste and the need for new construction materials. Her design was very thoughtful and innovative and all of the spaces and features work very well together, making an integrated home where each space feels comfortable and functional. We’ve been very pleased with the results after now living in the home for eleven years. Angela did have a few oversights such as determining how to vent the range, but some of these problems were likely the result of difficulties of doing a remodel and inexperience. I expect that with many more years of experience Angela has addressed these sorts of issues. Angela has also been very responsive over the years to questions we’ve had or minor issues that needed to be dealt with. We would readily hire AMD Architecture again and we can highly recommend Angela Dean.

The associates at AMD Architecture spent considerable time and effort getting to know us, our habits and lifestyle, and helping us clarify what we wanted in a new living space. These efforts personalized the home building experience and made the design process much more efficient. Consequently, the design that we settled on was very close to the early drafts. They kept us informed throughout every step in the design and building processes and continually sought our feedback. Angela assisted us in narrowing our search for a General Contractor, connecting with the LEED certification personnel, and providing insightful suggestions along the way. She established a productive working relationships with the eventual contractors, and provided critical assistance throughout the building process. This was our first experience with an architectural firm. The folks at AMD went far beyond our expectations to make it a fun, educational, and rewarding experience. It has been almost three years since we moved in and our home makes us smile everyday.

We hired AMD/Angela Dean to design a small 1300 sq. ft home for us in a remote location in S. Utah. We spent a full year working with AMD on the design. Throughout that process we were very impressed with Angela's ability to translate our ideas and desires into a practical construction reality. Angela shared our views about environmentally responsibility, which made the process all the more enjoyable. Perhaps the most important AMC design suggestion had to do with the orientation of the structure on the building footprint. Rotating the structure to better fit the immediate landscape was a key insight, and AMD gets full credit for that idea. At the beginning of the project we challenged Angela to develop a design that would live up to surrounding landscape, a big challenge indeed. AMD successfully met that challenge.

My wife and I had an excellent experience working with AMD Architecture in designing our Italian-styled energy efficient home between 2006 and 2009. Angela Dean and her colleagues helped us realize our aesthetic desires with the practical passive solar, renewable energy, and efficiency goals, and we are very pleased with the result. Initially, we had interviewed three architects for our home project, and Angela and my wife seemed to hit it off well right at the start. The other architects we had met seemed a bit intimidating as we described what we wanted to do -- one even telling us an Italian-style home just wouldn't work in Utah! We were very pleased with the detailed programming phase of the design process, where Angela and her colleagues inquired about our lifestyles and goals (e.g., proving space for entertaining, music, cooking, family activities, etc.) that helped inform how the house would be designed to meet these needs. During the design phase, we spent many Fridays in her office, engaging interactively with AMD staff members to work out details of the home. We were particularly pleased with the effort to design our kitchen to meet my wife's desires for cooking exotic Asian foods. We also appreciated some of the clever ways AMD created space efficiently -- for example, our daughters' study area serves partly as a hallway and open communal spot, eliminating our need to build a separate "study room." AMD provided us a comprehensive set of house plans that contractors who bid on it noted was on par with commercial projects, and the plans sailed through the city permitting office without any problems or questions. AMD also worked with our contractors and sub-contractors throughout the construction phase, providing assistance on interior design, cabinetry details, and selection of fixtures and décor. In sum, we highly recommend Angela Dean and AMD Architecture for home design.

AMD Architecture is amazing! They are creative and practical. The client gets a one of a kind design that fits their exact lifestyle. I haven't met anyone in the industry who can match the listening skills as well as translating the clients desires into reality. If you want customer service, a custom and unique design while being mindful of the environment, hands down, I'd hire AMD! They work off word of mouth only...if you don't believe this rating...being able to operate a successful business since 1997 by word of mouth alone, tells all. AMD Architecture was "GREEN" and ecofriendly WAY before it became popular to do so...they are LEED certified and leaders in environmentally friendly designs and material usage.
