I hired Hisako to redesign my kitchen, dining room and two full bathrooms. I absolutely love living in my transformed house. Her design aesthetic and choice of materials is modern, earthy and timeless. She was wonderful to work with in every way. I later hired her to explore options for an ADU and was impressed with her team and ideas around the various approaches for that project.

Bo and Hisako designed a beautiful addition (master bedroom + living room extension) for our home. In their role as the architects, the also facilitated the entire process - including the planning, the permitting, and the construction phases. Both the final product and the process were excellent. In terms of the architectural design, Bo and Hisako worked to understand what we needed and how we lived in our house and then came up with a beautiful and functional design for the addition. They honored the traditional aspects of the existing house and seamlessly created a modern, open, bright addition. The main challenge of the project was building around some existing mature trees in our yard that we did not want to take down. The architectural plans really honored the trees and the beautiful deck they designed now wraps around a large magnolia tree which serves as a nice focal point from both the living room and the new bedroom. The attention to detail in the architectural design was amazing - we especially appreciate how much thought went into how a space will actually be used and lived in. And this is in addition to creating a beautiful space, both inside and out, that is fun to live in and to look at! I recommend Bunch Design in the strongest of terms. They were also super helpful with the process, accurate with budgets and timelines. They also stayed involved with the project until the very end - far past the end of the architectural design phase. They were involved in critical on the spot construction decisions and were excellent facilitators of the construction process. When we decided to add on to our house, we had no idea that the result would be so beautiful (and so functional) and we owe that entirely to Bo's and Hisako's vision. I highly recommend working with Bunch Design.

We hired Bo and Hisako of Bunch design to help us with a full home remodel of a 3 bedroom/2 bath house in Atwater Village. We liked their design sensibilities and their history of similar projects, as well as their proximity to us. As first time home remodelers, Bunch was helpful in answering our questions and guiding us through the initial planning process, and we were consistently pleased with their work. The most significant issue that we had with Bunch pertained to cost. We provided Bunch a target budget at the beginning of the project, and hoped that the plans they designed for us would be achievable at that budget. Unfortunately once we began the bidding process with contractors, the quotes we received were far more than the target (up to double). Bunch did help us scale the design back, but we ended up having to make significant modifications with the contractor to try to wrestle the costs down. We relied heavily on Bunch for design and interior detail work as first-timers, but we felt that many of their suggestions were excessively costly and led to many hours of effort on our part hunting down more affordable alternatives. In the end, we are extremely happy with our home and the design elements that Bunch brought to the project. However, we would recommend a very firm upfront discussion about budget at the outset of a project. We wound up spending approximately 30% more than we planned on the renovation, even after months of working hard to control costs.

We hired bunch to design a 500 square foot addition and reorganize the existing space of our house. Right from the get go, they got us and they got our house. Their designs were beautiful and they helped us negotiate the minefield of city permits. We are very happy with their work and would gladly recommend them.

The Bunch Design team recently designed an amazing cottage for me in my backyard in Echo Park. I have a relatively small yard, but they were able to fit in a beautiful 1 bedroom that feels incredibly open and spacious. I love the high ceilings and the way the living room opens up to the patio, which really takes advantage of the outdoor living space. It's been a true pleasure working with Bunch - they are very responsive, pay attention to details, and helped guide me through the entire process (I couldn't have done it without their help). I highly recommend working with them!

We sat on the idea of renovating our house for years, only deciding to go forward with it after a serious illness gave urgency to the idea of our house as refuge. A comfortable place to have friends and family hang out, a place where I could spread out in the kitchen and make a holy mess. I’d seen a piece about Bo and Hisako’s own house design in the L.A. Times and clipped the story (yes, a paper copy of the Times!). Not only was the aesthetic of their house exactly what I was looking for, but what I really liked was their practicality about the way families actually live in their houses. When we finally called Bunch Design and had Bo come out and take a look at our weirdly designed 1952 ranch-style house, I was floored at how quickly Bo sized up the space and told me how they could open up the house and design a new kitchen and bathroom. He thought the project would take 3 months, which was critical because we had to stay in the house (with no kitchen) for the duration. It took 4 months, and only because we added work to the construction project. I can’t describe (without using expletives) how much we love our house. Love love love. We love everything about it. It’s completely transformed. Everyone who comes over remarks on how much lighter and larger the house seems, although we didn’t add an inch to the footprint. We are so happy we worked with Bo and Hisako and went forward with the project.

We hired Bunch Design to do a feasibility study after all on a very steep hill. Although we couldn't proceed with building due to site challenges, they did an amazing design. We had imagined a contemporary, Spanish-infused site-specific, original building which they did with incredible thoughtfulness and understated flair. They also did incredible research on building on hills in a historically zoned neighborhood.

I was hired by a homeowner to remodel their space which was designed by Hisako and Bo, of BUNCH DESIGN. The experience was a complete success, owing in large part to the comprehensive planning on their part, technically and artistically. Issues which arose during construction were dealt with promptly and thoughtfully, resulting in an on-time/on-budget project. They have a great eye for materials, finishes, and detail, and a strong understanding of the entire construction process to achieve these goals.

For 3 years my wife and I were lucky enough to live in the Elysian Park modern cabin designed and built by Bunch. The home was full of light with a breathtaking vaulted ceiling, large windows framing the garden and park views and delicate design touches throughout. The home became provided sanctuary and space for calm just minutes from downtown LA.

The partners at Bunch Design are talented, detail-orientated and thoughtful. Both are creative thinkers who can design and maximize beautiful spaces and they understand how people really live.
