My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

About Us

California at Home is a custom residential design and drafting service. We have been in business for over 40 years providing designs and plans for all types of residential projects including large custom homes, additions and remodels, tracts and subdivisions. We pride ourselves on a "team" approach to the design and plan the creation process by working with the various other professionals that are involved in that process, from structural engineers to landscape designers, kitchen and bath specialists, interior designers, civil engineers, truss companies, fire sprinkler companies, etc. We can handle all types of residential projects from a 100 sq. ft. master bedroom closet addition to an 18,000 sq. ft. custom home (of which we have done both) as well as anything in between. Scott has designed three homes for me over the last several years. He was very responsive to my needs and extremely helpful at problem solving construction issues at a low cost. Scott is very knowledgeable in all aspects of home building, and he has put together(on paper) well built homes. What I like best about Scott is that I was able to keep in contact with him throughout the course of home construction, answering all my questions during the process. I will happily use Scott in the future for all my building needs.

Scott Hicks at California at Home designed a 1000 square foot studio and guest house for our Sierra Foothills property. His work was of the highest quality and his fees were more than reasonable.. Scott worked quickly and efficiently and he coordinated well with the engineers and the general contractor. When we asked for changes they were made quickly and efficiently. We have recommended California at Home to a number of friends who are considering new construction of single family dwellings and major remodels..

Scott is helping us design our new house in Oakdale. He's been extremely good to work with and patient with our many changes. Scott is always conscious of the cost of construction and provides sound advice as it pertains to design. His pricing is very reasonable. We have enjoyed working with Scott and will recommend him to others.

Scott designed and drafted plans for a master bedroom extension for us. The plans were submitted and approved by the city with no revisions. That was awesome & a relief! He listened to our desires, took time to answer our questions & responded to all our concerns. He is very knowledgeable about codes & rules. He was efficient & his fees were reasonable. It was a pleasant experience working with him. We are looking forward to having our new addition completed. We would highly recommend California At Home to anyone. Commented: CladdingIt is a wood cladding called IPE (pronounced e-pay). I do not know exactly where the contractor gets it from but it is a very attractive material.
