I live in a split level older house built in 1933. One of the big challenges was a considerable number of different roof lines, and may areas with low ceiling height. The dream was to have a good size master suite with sitting area, a work space with desk, nice bathroom with plenty of space, a second functional bedroom, ample closet space - the original space did not allow any shirts to be hung up without the hangers being turned at an angle because there was not enough depth, and the hope to squeeze in a sauna. All of this while being cognizant of the time frame the house was built, to carry the details upstairs, while creating a European type feel. It really was amazing that Chris could walk around the different areas of the house, figure out where structural support items were present, and truly have the vision to completely redesign the space. The old narrow steep stairwell was replaced by one that completely flows straight up as you enter the house. (Much more eye appealing and so much more functional). The smaller rear windows were removed and are large rear arched window was installed completely opening up the room and creating an amazing open space. (Funny enough I wasn't sure on going this route, but talking it through with Chris, and seeing some of his past projects, I decided it was for me. It was one of the best decisions for the space). Not only was he able to create a beautiful living space with wonderful architectural interest that flowed with first floor, we achieved everything on the list including the sauna! Working with Chris was just a great experience. He is extremely easy going, has great vision, provides timely information, really takes interest in what YOU want in your project, and has the experience to know how to make it all come together.

Chris is so great to work with! His ideas were unique , taking time to figure out the best use of our space for our lifestyle!!! Definitely recommend him for any project!

We've been working with Chris on various projects over the last 5 years. We've not only done an addition with him but also a master bathroom remodel. He really listens to what you want and need and draws the plans accordingly. I highly recommend him for an small or more complex project or remodel. Currently we are designing a screened porch and bar with him! Many more projects to come.

We began our journey with Chris in December 2016. After interviewing several local architects with credentials fitting our needs, we quickly settled in on Chris shortly after meeting him. Of the five architects we interviewed, it was Chris' experience, process, demeanor, and honesty that drew us to him. With plans to add-on to our 100-year old Webster Groves home, we knew choosing the right architect would be the most important decision we'd make in this process. Shortly after signing an engagement letter with Chris, he swiftly moved us into the "discovery phase" where his approach was helpful, illustrative and directional. We began discussing ideas for our new 2-story addition that we'd never thought of before. His approach of presenting us 3 different scale design options, choosing one, and then proceeding to 3 more detailed design options, was simple yet productive. After finalizing our design, Chris walked us through the survey/engineering/permit phase; and once blueprints were in hand, he helped us organize early bidding with general contractors with whom he'd worked with in the past, that might best fit our needs. That being said, we chose a general contractor we had some experience with and that came highly recommended, and Chris quickly engaged our GC and developed a relationship with him that made the construction phase of our project easier to navigate. All of the details that were so important to us were communicated by Chris to our GC and the finished project is phenomenal. We would recommend Chris to anyone. His care and attention to detail to his clients' wishes and dreams, are second to none. He truly makes you feel as though you are his best client -- always quick to respond to questions/project issues, and giving advice on other design matters that aren't always part of what he's been hired to do. Again, he's wonderful and we will always be grateful to him for the incredible home he helped us design.

We recommend Chris Marshall with no reservations. Our project was a pool bath and a covered pavilion addition. We met with Chris several times and discussed our goals and objectives. We enjoyed our visits. Chris was a very good and patient listener and really tried to understand our priorities. He provided us with several options and followed up with even more options as we refined our vision. Our house was built around 1928 and we were very hopeful that the new addition would look like it was part of the original home. He was meticulous and detailed with all the measuring and the proposed plan reflected very careful thought. He include many details that tied the old together with the new. As the project construction commenced, Chris was in touch and responsive. He made several site visits and addressed any of our questions. One of our biggest goals was to preserve the wonderful light that was part of the original home. Chris was creative and the finished addition allows all the light we could hope for. We are very thankful for our new outdoor room. Chris is a wonderful and talented architect and a delightful person as well.

Chris came up with the perfect design solutions for our budget. Our kitchen project was completed some time ago, and having lived with it for so long, we still love everything about it and wouldn't change anything. We are in the process of building a new deck project which Chris designed, and I know we are going to love it. Chris is very creative and detail-oriented, thinking through every aspect of the project, from tasteful design aesthetics, to structural integrity, to the placement of electrical outlets. He thinks of everything. I highly recommend him - 5 stars!

Chris provided several layout designs for our kitchen and helped us decide on a design that incorporated many features that we did not think of. He was fast and efficient and his plans were very precise which allowed for the construction period to be less than 3 months. We love our new kitchen and would highly recommend Chris as an architect.

Chris is a great architect. Very creative, practical, patient. This was a very large gut/expansion renovation of an old home. He provided plans that are exactly what we wanted. He incorporated elements that flawlessly tied in the new with the original. He is extremely thorough and very knowledgable about what is allowed in specific municipalities so his detailed information made the architectural review and building process very efficient. He has good relationships with several builders, and was available throughout the bid process and renovation for consultation as needed.

I highly recommend Chris Marshall! We interviewed 2 architects for our family room/kitchen remodel. The first one told us to build an addition onto our already large home. I felt strongly we could just reconfigure our existing space, and when Chris walked into our home for the first time, that's exactly what he thought we should do. I feel like he totally understood our vision and our budget. He guided us through the design process, explaining each step of the way, and added creative touches that reflect his appreciation and knowledge of our home's style. He was very flexible whenever we wanted to make a change, and he also helped us modify some of the design features to cut our budget a little. This isn't Chris's first rodeo- he is very experienced in both design and the municipal approval process. He was the perfect person to hold our hands through this project and give us the home of our dreams!

Chris did a fabulous job, start to finish on our project. He really listened to our needs, drew up several options for us and tweaked as the project progressed, always putting our needs and wants :) at the top of the list! He didn't just draw up plans and wash his hands, which is so refreshing. He checked in on a regular basis and helped the project along in every respect. I would highly recommend Chris. I would recommend Chris to anyone considering a residential addition or renovation. We have a home built in 1928 and we hired Chris to plan a major renovation that included a garage, master suite, kitchen, mud room and family room. His love for...and knowledge of older homes, makes him invaluable in the planning process. He was very thorough in his information gathering and measuring, as well as meeting with us to understand our needs and concerns. There are many nuances and quirks to older homes. Chris was patient with us and our concerns, revisions and budget during the planning process. As problems came up during construction, and you will have problems during an older home renovation, Chris was always available to quickly and efficiently address any issues. We are extremely pleased with the finished project. We lived in our home for 10 years before we tackled this project and it turned out beautifully. I would hire Chris again in a second. He is easy to work with, charming, funny and a good person. He gives you more than you expect.

Chris Marshall designed a large addition for our home, which was built in the early 1920's. We wanted to keep our beautiful old home in a desirable neighborhood but expand it to include large spaces for family and entertaining. Our project included a new kitchen and hearth room, a screened-in porch, a walk-out lower level rec room and a new bathroom. The addition was approximately 1,500 square foot on the main floor and 1,300 on the lower level. Also, the original house was renovated to include a laundry/mud room, another new bathroom and an open center hallway leading to the new space. Outdoors, a new front porch, front walk, driveway, back patio and shed were also added. Improvements were also made to the original garage. The project was complicated because of the tie-in with our older home, both aesthetically and in terms of the construction requirements. Chris has a lot of experience and is very creative with many unique and interesting ideas which improved our project significantly. One of the most significant was the ability to utilize the grade in the backyard to create a walk-out lower level. He is very knowledgable about municipal code requirements and as a result, we had no follow up or rework required after submitting plans to the city for review/approval. He did a great job coordinating several builder walk-throughs and the entire bidding process. He was always available throughout construction for any questions that arose and to provide ongoing advice. The project turned out amazing! One comment that we have heard over and over again is that the new space "does not look like an addition and matches the original house perfectly." Chris is really enjoyable to work with and is timely with turn around. We would recommend Chris to anyone embarking on a new project!

Chris managed our kitchen, dining room, restroom and deck remodel and was wonderful to work with and we love the final results! We felt like we were in someone else's chic home for several months after the project and can't believe we waited so long to update this 90 year old home. His team of contractors were incredibly talented, professional and enjoyable. I still use many of the people he recommended and refer them to others. Excellent job!

We hired Chris to do a major basement renovation. The work included a video area, game room, bar, exercise and dance rooms and bathroom with steam shower. Not only did Chris do the design work, he also monitored the construction to assure compliance with all design criteria. We have had many compliments on the overall look and very positive comments on some of the more unique design features- in particular the pass through at the bar to an exterior bar, large circular light in the video area and the stone and granite choices for the wall and bars. Chris was always constructive in offering alternatives to what we initially chose, pointing out cost , maintenance and design value tradeoffs. Chris was easy to work with and always available.

Chis worked closely with us to come up with the design for the kitchen and breakfast area renovation. There were a number of difficult challenges that Chris was able to provide solutions for at a reasonable cost. Once the drawings were complete and contractors hired, Chris worked closely with them to insure everything was completed as we had expected. We love the work he did. It has been 3 years now since the remodel was done and we wouldn't change a thing. I would highly recommend Chris for any project you might have. Large or small.

Chris did an excellent job for us and was very professional. We chose him after interviewing other people. He worked with us closely to design the new addition to our house. It was a major addition that included a new kitchen, den, breakfast room and bar on the first floor. Upstairs we put in a new master bedroom and bathroom and we built a new attached garage with adjoining concrete deck. In addition, several parts of the old house underwent renovation and were reconfigured into other space. We wanted the new construction to flow nicely with the old house (It was built in the 1920s) and be consistent with what we already had but be new. Chris worked very closely with us. He provided initial plans and then modified them as we worked through the design process to get the house to what we wanted. While he provided ideas/concepts, he readily tossed them out if we were not in love with them. After finishing our plans he helped us find a contractor and met with us frequently during the construction to make sure that the plans were being followed and that we were getting what we wanted. When there were special things we wanted (e.g. door knobs with glass handles, windows that were in character with a 1920s house), he did the needed work to find them on the internet. He was even there when we got to the final punch list to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The house is perfect and we could not be happier. He did everything he said he would do architecturally and for the price he promised us for his services. Outside of him doing a great professional job as an architect, he also is a very nice person.

We hired Chris to help us plan out our kitchen/living room/deck remodel, as you can see on his Houzz site it turned out beautifully. It is the kitchen of our dreams! He also invisioned details that we would never hav e thought of. Most notable opening up the hallway to go through from front door to the back deck doors.
