David Lund Design

When we set out to completely renovate the common areas of our 1950s fixer-upper, we knew we needed the expertise of an architect. So we started by conducting phone interviews with ~15 residential architects, and then invited six in for interviews. After meeting David Lund, the decision was a no brainer. There are obviously many talented architects; however, we were particularly impressed with David's range of design capabilities (nothing about his portfolio felt cookie cutter, everything was tailored to the house and family that occupied it) as well as his communication style and demeanor (he was organized, intentional and thoughtful, never frazzled or stressed). We have our own style and had our own ideas for the project, but we also wanted an architect who could complement us and introduce new ideas – to work in tandem, as a team. And David delivered. From iterations with renderings to the bidding process and picking out materials to helping us navigate a city variance for an addition, he was with us every step of the way. Many people warned us that a year-long renovation would be incredibly stressful, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Much of that is a testament to David's process, how he shows up to meetings and communicates, and the construction professionals he associates with. DLDs passion for design came through when we asked 'How do you turn an over and under duplex to an open and flowing space for one family?' DLDs creativity and understanding of what our family needed has given us the life long home we imagined. His enthusiasm, listening and understanding of our family was why the design style aligned with our wishes and needs . David was easy going and adapted to our requests as he led us through the design process. We would definitely recommend DLD and work with him again.

David was great to work with. He thoughtfully listened to our needs and ideas, and worked within our budget to come up with a design that fits our house and is such a joy to live in. He helped connect all the dots from concepting and picking out finishes, to selecting and working with our contractors. We had a wonderful experience with David. He was the architect our builders recommended and we couldn't be happier with our new kitchen. We had an idea of what we wanted, but waited to show him our rough plans until after we saw his first draft as we wanted to see how he approached it. He had a few options and they both had really cool aspects. With his guidance, we went with a different approach than we would have and it made all the difference. David focused on the things we may have missed- windows lining up across spaces so light felt continuous, widening doorways to connect rooms, but still maintain separate spaces. We LOVE our new kitchen and the space has transformed how we entertain and how our family interacts. David's work greatly improved the project and we can't recommend him enough. He listened to what was important to us, but also brought in relevant approaches. He was super easy to work with and is prompt and responsive.

We hired David Lund to design an addition to our house that matched the time period for when it was built and the extra room to our family needed. He listened to our hopes and interest for details like more natural light and helped us with tile and other specifics during the build. Friends have commented that the design looks that it is original to our 1915 and that is what we were looking for. This is now our forever home with the perfect amount of space. We are so happy.

Our project turned out great! He was able to execute a plan that met our wants and needs in a very timely fashion. Communication was easy and selection of materials and builders was coordinated smoothly. When some surprises turned up in the process of converting our old plumbing, he quickly arrived at a solution. He came up with a design that fit the style of the home but provided functional improvements.

David is the ultimate professional and he brings a wealth of experience to the architectural and design needs of a project. He designed a beautiful renovation to a 100 year old house that added functionality and design while preserving the unique architecture of the home's interior. David was tremendous to work with during our addition/remodel project. He is an excellent listener and has great vision for making the space visually appealing and functional. He showed a high level of engagement throughout the project and was a trusted source to keep an eye on the project when we were unavailable for an extended period of time. Our neighbors have gone out of there way to complement us on how the additional blends in with the existing character of our 1920s home. We are thrilled with how the project has turned out and would highly recommend his services to others.

David designed a full house remodel for us. Our foremost concern was that our hopefully "forever" house would be beautiful. David delivered! The house has received praise and accolades from our neighbors and friends. And it was a pleasure working with David. He communicated well and listened carefully to what we needed. In particular, I appreciated that he was respectful of our budget. While I'm sure he was working on bigger projects at the time, we always felt like we were his #1 priority and that this project was as important to him as it was to us!

David provided design services for our home remodel of a 1919-built story and a half bungalow in southwest Minneapolis. We wanted remodeled and more functional space on the main level and more finished and functional space in the basement for our son and his friends. David brought vision we didn’t have about how we could repurpose our home to maximize our goals within our budget. He listened to us, got to know us and made creative design recommendations that reflect our style, such as showcasing my husband’s photography and our art, improving access to the outdoor patio, and beautifully remodeling and improving circulation of the main level. He shepherded us through the bidding process, we loved our contractor, and our contractor was very complimentary of David’s design. Our project was finished on time and on budget. David was creative, professional, and fun to work with. We love our new space!

David did a fantastic job designing a modern, historically accurate, functional and BEAUTIFUL kitchen for us. What was a dark and dated space, he magically opened up and filled with light. He listened intently to all our wants and wishes and was thoughtful with ideas and suggestions. We look forward to working with David again as we continue to restore our 120 year old home.
