Design Q&A

We were very happy with our basement remodel design from Design Q&A. Our designer Paul came up with some great ideas to give us the look we were looking for (basically mid century modern with an updated twist). He went above and beyond expectations after the design was completed with some additional follow up which we very much appreciated.

I've worked closely with Paul over the past year to help me with the design of an extensive home remodel, which included all 3 bathrooms, repainting of the whole interior, all new light fixtures/electrical design, new flooring, replacing our stairwell/banister, etc. Paul designed our primary bathroom, providing us with a few creative options on how to redesign the space. He also was critical in giving us advice on light fixtures, paint colors, bathroom fixtures, flooring options/colors---basically, he was heavily involved in every aspect of our remodel project. The thing I love about Paul is that he took the time to really understand my design preferences and then he provided design guidance to align with those preferences. With this remodel, he was able to bring our house forward from the original 1980s build/design to a much more streamlined, mid-century modern look and feel. I absolutely love how our home looks now. And we're currently working with Paul to redesign our kitchen, which I know will also turn out amazing. The last thing I'll say about Paul is that he's a pleasure to work with. He's responsive to my requests, he appropriately pushes back on my ideas when they don't align with my overall design scheme, and he's incredibly knowledgeable, pragmatic, and professional. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Now that the kitchen/dining room remodel in our small 1920’s Craftsman style-home is almost complete, it is easy to appreciate the expertise Paul Livdahl brings to his designs. He removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room, opening up the space and creating a more spacious and inviting look. He brought new light into the kitchen with a glass door and new window that look out onto our back yard patio and perennial garden. He rearranged the island and appliances, removing an annoying roadblock in the kitchen and creating greater energy efficiency. He added floor-to-ceiling oak cupboards that are both beautiful and shallow enough that nothing gets lost. He added a “drop-station” in the dining room, with cupboards above and a granite-topped desk below that can work as both a desk and a serving space for entertaining. All of these changes updated the space and made food preparation easier and more enjoyable. I am especially grateful for Paul’s attention to the history of the house and how well the new design preserves and enhances its architectural integrity. It was well worth the money to hire someone with his expertise.

Paul is great to work with, and helped us significantly improve on our original ideas. Would definitely work with him again, and even earlier in our project planning. Works really hard to listen and understand what is wanted, but also provides suggestions to help us make fully informed decisions. Set clear expectations on timelines and delivered on time!

Paul provided designs for a kitchen/bath remodel of our 1910's craftsman home in Northeast Minneapolis. The project was challenging because of the limited kitchen space, but Paul helped us expand into our dining room and three season area to create a more open, efficient kitchen that we love. We worked with Paul on an addition and complete internal re-do - bigger kitchen, bigger master bedroom. Paul is a good listener, honest, and genuine person. We ended up buying a house and he refunded the unused portion of our "retainer". From the beginning he is comfortable to work with and what he says, he does. I kind of hate to have found a house because I know he'd work wonders.
