I selected cornerstone based on the reviews on houzz- I needed a custom plan that would take advantage of the mountain and valley views on my lot. I was building a 1200# ADU (City requirements were that it be similar in style, features and colors to our existing home). None of the existing plans I could find were much more than boxes or rectangles that weren’t view oriented. He met me out on my lot so I could impress upon him what I needed. The design process was slow, at one point he offered me one of the cookie cutter rectangles that I was trying to avoid- why would I pay custom design price for a generic plan I could order off the internet for $1000? He said he was having trouble fitting what I needed into the configuration I asked for, which was a bit of a zigzag layout to mimic my larger home. Finally after much tweaking the design approximated what I was looking for. Trying to maximize every square foot, I didn’t care for the large wasted hallway space. I redesigned myself the entry, 2nd bathroom, laundry area and 2nd bedroom into a much more efficient layout. From the beginning, there were issues with the plans. The building Dept. sent them back for missing information. The foundation people complained about missing dimensions needed for layout. The framers complained about missing and/or wrong dimensions that didn’t add up. I needed a hipped roof to match my existing home. The roof system was so overly complicated that my trusses cost twice as much. The truss system was so complicated there were over 80 pages of specs- for a 1200# house! Everyone who saw it said it was beyond anything they had ever seen on such a small house. It required a lot of over-framing, extra sheathing and lumber to execute, which of course cost much more than anticipated. A much simpler roof could have been designed, there were 22 hips and valleys, again, on a 1200# house. On the inside, the ceiling, which was intended to be vaulted, after framing looked like it hadn’t been taken into consideration, either by the designer or the truss company or both. When the Drywall started it became apparent that certain walls didn’t line up with trusses where they should, and angles where they intersected were not smooth transitions. My husband and I had to spend 2 entire days and nights adding drywall backing and framing along the vault lines in order for the drywallers to sheath it. They were able to tweak a few areas thus leaving ONLY 2 odd areas in the ceiling where 2 and 3 angles collided in the same place. It will take a lot of mud to get the rest of the vaults to look good, I can only hope it doesn’t crack along the vault lines down the road. This is where we currently sit. The Corona virus has brought our build to a stop at this point. In the end, my plans for a 1200# Accessory Dwelling Unit cost well over $7000, with additional costs every time the engineer had to be consulted to clarify something or Engineer something that was left off the original plans. Jared is a pleasant person to work with, but he has been cursed by everyone who has anything to do with building our ADU. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DESIGNER.

Ward Engineering began working with Jared of Cornerstone Home Designs approximately 3 years ago to perform residential design work using Chief Architect design software. I find Jared to be the most capable Chief Architect designer I have ever worked with. Jared is very efficient and thorough at developing the residential Chief Architect models. In addition to being competent, Jared makes himself available to provide personal 1-on-1 training over the internet, which has been a huge blessing to our company and clients.

Jared designed a 3200sf addition on my home. Jared’s was easy to work with, reasonable and his services were efficient. He sat and listened to what we wanted in adding a 2nd story to an existing house.

I had Jared design a 600sf addition on my home. Jared’s price was very reasonable and his services were efficient. I was satisfied enough with his services that I’m now having him design a covered outdoor space and fireplace.

Jarad was friendly and professional. He was easy to work with and very flexible with availability. The plans for our home addition turned out great.

Communicative with an open mind to your experience and input. Keeps ideas in a personal professional bases for build up from basic plans to desired outcome of home design. Currently getting quote for remodel and going to see if Cornerstone will be available when actual construction takes place as sometimes there are discrepancies that come up during construction from contractors as it is normal in the field of trade. Jerad is professional and willing to come out to mutual locations to do business rather than stay solely at his office. He does have complete backing as he works with more than just home design, engineering, and architecture to complete plans to be construction ready. I would recommend him, do to his accessibility to resources for full function of his business.

Jared was a great guy to work with and was able to put our thoughts down on paper. He was able to take a basic floor plan and tweak it to our needs. He worked through the initial phase of the design and I’m looking forward to working with him in the future.

I have been working with Jarod on home designs and training sessions for the last year or so and my experience has been a blessing to say the least. As a new user to chief architect I took on design jobs that were way outside of my ability to complete alone. Fortunately with Jarod, his expert his is just an email or training session away. Without Jarod I could have never completed several projects. His service is great, his plans are awesome and his prices are very reasonable. Overall, is value is unmatched.

In 2012, we once again called on Jared Baehmer to develop our vision for an 1000 sq ft Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) with an RV garage into plans for new construction on our property in Washington State. Not only did Jared come up with EXACTLY what we wanted but he worked with engineers and county agencies to ensure that the build went perfectly. His vast knowledge of the building codes and specifications saved time, effort, inspections/re-inspections and money. He even designed a garden shed for the property complete with front porch, windows and a loft. These projects were not from some cookie cutter plan, these are custom designs by Jared himself. I have also seen the total custom home he designed in Lakewood, Washington and know the owners well.
