When we found our perfect lot in Beaufort SC, we knew we would need someone special to help us bring our dreams to life. Everything we wanted seemed to be a contradiction in terms ie. a small dogtrot house with lots of natural light yet deep porches, and with an extra large car enthusiasts's dream garage that doesn't dwarf the house. We wanted something fresh and modern, but filled with our quirky antiques and souvenirs from our travels. We wanted something both cozily familiar , yet adventurously daring! Enter Frederick & Frederick! In their expert hands our ideas were elevated to the next level! No detail was too small, starting with the brilliant way they sited the house on the lot, creating a private oasis that captured the views spectacularly. Eaves became extensions of the interior ceilings clad in the same cypress connecting the inside with the outdoors. The front facade features a stunning arch of glass spanning the entire front porch, filling the house with natural light. The kitchen became a masterpiece of contemporary elegance. Even the air return registers hold a secret message... the blueprint of our home repeatedly reproduced into the grille and signed with our initial! Little strokes of genius are tucked to surprising places! We could go on and on about the many features we love in this home! But the most important aspect of building with Frederick & Frederick is how they delivered all this while making the process a joyful "team" adventure. Between our weekly on site meetings and in depth reports, we were able to relax and enjoy the building experience knowing we were in good hands! They were always a text away, no matter how silly the question. They encouraged us and cared deeply about our project. They really do "hold your hand" through the entire build and beyond, and we were confident they wouldn't let us make an expensive mistake! Building with Frederick & Frederick was the best decision we ever made. They are wonderful, talented purple, and in the end we got a home beyond our wildest dreams, and very dear friends too!

Jane and Michael and team really listened to our somewhat inarticulate goals. We wanted “where modern meets Southern,” as well as warmth, serenity, and a dash of whimsy. Our home on the marsh does all of that, and more. We have a gorgeous mature live oak tree on the edge of the site, so much on the edge that I didn’t even dream they could make it a part of our vista, but it frames the view exceptionally. The substantial maple trim throughout the house gives warmth and elegance. There is no wasted space, and yet the house feels spacious and substantial. Outside, the undulating pool wall swoops in a charming way, giving privacy as well as view - really unique. Neighbors walking by perpetually exclaim how much they love it. We sip our wine and think we are fortunate indeed.

We are thrilled with the job that Frederick + Frederick did in designing our new home. They really listened to us, marrying our design interests with the low-country vernacular of the region, as well as the opportunities of the building site. The result is a home that is visually exciting but also very livable. We really enjoyed collaborating with Jane and Michael on the project.

The design of our house is rated 5 stars (six if we could). The Fredericks listened to our vision for our retirement home, and we completed their questionnaire. Within a few weeks, we were provided sketches that blew us away. The sketches were fine tuned and became drawings and construction plans. We liked that the Frederick's provide a full service, and we knew up front exactly what that would cost. As the Frederick's like to say, if you turn your house upside down and shake it, anything that doesn't fall down is included in their scope of work. The design was contemporary and unique, but still fit very well with other homes in Berkeley Hall. Many of our friends and neighbors have stated that our house is their favorite house in all of Berkeley Hall. The quality and workmanship of the design and construction was excellent. We have been in the house for over a year and a half, and no issues have emerged. Their service also included oversight of the builder and certification of costs. The project took longer to complete than expected, and several scope issues needed additional negotiation with the builder. But given the uniqueness of this house, this was to be expected and was not excessive. For this phase of the work, I'd rate 4 stars. In the end, our expectations were exceeded. Our house was more beautiful and was constructed flawlessly with materials of much higher quality than we expected.

Frederick and Frederick did an outstanding job designing our home to take advantage of the lot with unique water views, while saving our huge oak trees. They listened and the design was creative and met our every need. Their construction management service, especially Tom, ensured the building process met the design details, giving us confidence while we were not present for extended times. They were quickly responsive to our every question and detail. We would highly recommend Frederick and Frederick for any high end project, especially one requiring creativity and total “beginning to end” services for the entire project. As the Builder on this project I can honestly say it was a pleasure working with the team at Frederick+Frederick. Plans were very clear, on site visit each week were very helpful. May be the most interesting house I have ever built. It turned out AWESOME.

We retained Frederick + Frederick to design our new home in Beaufort, SC, and it was a very wise decision. The Frederick's seamlessly handled the design, prepared construction drawings, scheduled interviews with recommended contractors, and conducted weekly inspections during construction of our home. We lived 9 hours away and greatly looked forward to the weekly reports, which included numerous photos and drone videos (very cool). Throughout the process we not only had someone "holding our hand", but we also had assistance in narrowing down every selection/decision to just a handful, in lieu of the hundreds we may otherwise have faced. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Frederick's to anyone needing a "one stop shop" (from permit to occupancy) or simply help with a home's design, they can do it all.

Michael Frederick of Frederick + Frederick is just completing a renovation of our vacation home. We have been very pleased with his creativity, his responsiveness to our tastes and ideas, and his ability to improve upon them with great tact. This is a long distance project for us, and we have been pleased with the frequent reports and photos, the ease of communicating with their whole team, and their rapid responses to our questions. They selected an excellent contractor, and the resulting quality of the workmanship has been everything we hoped for. The project will come in a little over budget and a little late, but the results are excellent. We would highly recommend Frederick + Frederick.

The entire team at Frederick + Frederick was outstanding! They took our ideas and vision and transformed it into a beautiful place. We love it! I can't say enough good about the construction administration. Their ability to work hand in hand with our contractor (also outstanding) and attention to detail really shows up in the finished product.

I have the highest regard for Jane Frederick! We first met when she attended a seminar I was giving during the AIA Southeastern convention a few years back. I appreciate her design aesthetic, and knowledge base for appropriate environmental design response. We served AIA National together on the founding board of Small Firms Rountable. Super happy for her recent election to AIA's National Board! Congrats Jane!
