About Us

Gayle Berkey Architects is a full service residential architectural firm founded in 1987. We do approximately 10-20 projects per year with a construction cost of $500,000 to $4,000,000 per project. We are located in Littleton, Southwest of Denver. Our specialty is luxury custom homes for individuals. One specific design to meet the current and future needs of one family or individual. We design to any style the client desires. We are famiiliar with what is currently "hot" on the market, but in our history have designed almost every style of home. We are happy to look at any examples of styles or design elements you have seen and would like incorporated into your design. Gayle Berkey is a licensed Colorado Architect with certification by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. The firm is also a member of the Home Builders Association.

Randall Kilian

I have known Gayle since 1956. He is one of the most innovative people I have ever known and has been since I met him. Starting from very humble roots in Russell, Kansas, home of Bob Dole and Phil Anschutz, Gayle worked his way to becoming the Frank Lloyd Wright of Denver Architecture. As Gayle's career winds down, I asked him to design a remodel and addition to an 1891 Russell County, Kansas Homested limestone house. The design and recommendation have been raved about by the contractor and subs who have bid it out. We are waiting to begin once all the bids are in and a start date can be set up in the middle of western Kansas. This is Gayle's first Kansas designed home. Can't wait to see its final outcome. Gayle was very creative in taking his award winning skills and turning our dream home into a reality. Unlike other architects we interviewed, his fee is based upon the square footage of the home versus the build-out cost. This made a huge difference in design costs. Coordination with our contractor was simplified via Gayle's expertise.

Gayle Berkey was hired 2012 to by Kim and Rhonda Hopfenspirger to coordinate the layout and design, bid process, permitting, and construction of our 5800 square foot home. Gayle brought experience, passion, professionalism and the ability to listen to our needs and ideas, incorporating into an unbelievable layout and design of our home. The budget for our home was 1.6 million. Completed cost came in at less than 1% over budget.

Gayle Berkey Architects We hired Gayle Berkey back in 2008 to design our mountain home. After many delays, modifications and permitting issues (none of which were Gayle’s fault) our home was completed in October 2018. He worked hand in hand with the builder throughout construction providing input and modifications as necessary. Gayle and his team were nothing but a pleasure to work with. Ultimately Gayle designed a superior home on a very difficult site. We would highly recommend Gayle for your architectural needs.

Gayle Berkey Architects and Monarch Homes Inc. have successfully executed multiple projects together over the years ranging from custom homes in the low $1 million construction costs all the way to one of the largest homes in Colorado. Gayle and I gravitate towards the extremely difficult projects because of our shared love of a challenge and thanks to his knack for thinking outside the box we have completed all them on time and on budget. Thus leaving behind a trail of happy clients which we both have had the pleasure of creating long lasting relationships with. I could never speak highly enough of Gayle and the abilities of his team which is why he has been our go to architect for years. His level of detail is comparable and exceeds many of the commercial architectural firms we have worked with in our 30 years of construction experience.

Gayle has designed two homes for us. Both have been good experiences. He takes the time to understand our needs, style and budget when developing the plans. Works well with the builder and local building departments, HOA's, etc. Knowledgeable about building codes so plans go through on the first application. Our most recent home that we moved into this year was on a very challenging riverfront lot. Gayle took the time to visit the site (3 hours away from his office) so that he understood the challenges to overcome as well as the need to position the house to maximize the views. Gayle will not design you a cookie cutter house. It will be unique and interesting. Highly recommend his services.
