Georgia Bizios and her colleague, Brian Grant, designed a substantial renovation of the 1962 Chapel Hill home we purchased in 2017. Their focus was on opening up the dark kitchen to the dining & family rooms, and combining two bedrooms to create a new master suite. Although we liked their initial plan for the suite, we asked to see another option. Georgia promptly drew sketches for five options and emailed them to me! They were involved in other areas of the house, as well, and had wonderful ideas to improve the flow in the home and for additional windows to brighten the interior. They drew a full set of plans of the entire house for the contractor’s use during demolition and construction. When a few questions came up during the renovation, Brian was quick to come by, assess the situation, offer ideas, and provide any needed drawings. On the exterior of the home, they made suggestions for the replacement deck in the back and for a new stone patio near the front door. When we decided to add a carport, we learned that Georgia had designed the one in our neighborhood that we had admired; she tweaked the design to fit our site and our needs. Georgia and Brian were a pleasure to work with—friendly, accessible, prompt to respond to questions or concerns, patient, and talented. Highly recommended.

We bought a "challenging" mid-century house that had fallen into disrepair and, while the original structure was good, the interior layout didn't work at all. Like the other reviewers note, Georgia Bizios and Brian Grant spent an awful lot of time talking with us and getting to know what we liked and didn't like about the house, as well as how we wanted to use the house. They designed improvements that added a minimal amount of additional space (we didn't need more space), but dramatically improved how we used the house. She also designed improvements we could undertake in two construction phases so we could change things as we could afford to. During construction, Georgia and Brian were always available to talk with the contractor about any questions that arose. We've finished all construction and lived with the results for over seven years. We appreciate the beauty and thoughtfulness of the design, and the way we live within it, even more now than when it was first finished.

We worked with Georgia Bizios on a much needed addition to our ranch home. The result was a master bedroom suite with adjoining spaces and deck that have been a joy to live in over the past twenty years. Her design has met all our needs while blending in beautifully with the existing structure of our house and taking full advantage of the exterior views of our wooded lot. Bizios Architect was first on our list when we recently needed someone to design a structure to shade our deck where there once was a beloved tree we lost in a storm. I knew the process of designing our house was going to be a great experience when, at our first meeting, I mentioned that I had been reading the book A Pattern Language, which prompted Georgia to present us with a list of patterns from the book as a way for us to begin thinking about what was important to us. Georgia realized our vision for a perfect home and after twelve years we continue to love our house.

Georgia Bizios worked with us on a remodel of our home in the North Carolina woods a few years ago and we enjoyed the experience immensely. She spent a great deal of time learning the ultimate goals of the remodel, our style preferences and lifestyle. She was tremendously respectful of our budgetary needs, and worked very well with our contractor. She often made suggestions throughout the process to either minimize costs or to enhance a particular design or functional option to produce a better result. Her grasp of logical function, for example, in our case, the addition of a small but very efficient multi-purpose pantry off our kitchen simplified our life extremely well. Addition of skylights made an amazing difference in the ambience. Simple suggestions of latticed porticos on the entrance to our house enhanced the beauty of it and integrated it into the woods very gracefully.

Bizios Architects designed our cabin on the Haw River outside of Chapel Hill, NC. She has won numerous design awards for our house design. Our house has also been featured recently in Back to the Cabin by Dale Mulfinger. Georgia Bizios and her staff were a joy to work with and we are extremely pleased with the final product. She consulted with us on all aspects of the cabin's design, adding many great ideas and features. She helped us find a builder and worked closely with the builder to make sure the cabin was constructed to her specifications. The cabin has a warm, cozy feel and exceeded all of our expectations. My sister and I hired Georgia Bizios to design one home for the two of us at the coast. The covenants would not allow us to build a duplex, so we needed a home with common areas but that also provided us with private spaces and some separation. Working with Georgia on our home was such a positive experience, both the process and the final result. Georgia asked us to fill out a questionnaire so she could learn who we are, how we live our lives, and what we needed and wanted in a house. Her questions made us think about things we never would have considered or known to ask ourselves. She encouraged us to take our time and not rush this part of the process, and she was right. Her process really helped us figure out what we wanted. When Georgia presented her initial designs to us it was obvious that she had thoroughly studied our responses. She "nailed" it so well initially, that although she was open to changes, we had very few. Georgia captured the feel of the house that we were looking for. As we requested, she brought the outside in, and beautifully framed the gorgeous views our lot provided. Our home functions very well for us and how we live our lives. She had great suggestions and ideas. Another thing we like about her is she likes to use stock materials in creative ways. Our home is stunning. We get compliments on it all the time. Best of all, we love it, and love spending time there. It fits who we are. I highly recommend Georgia and her firm. They are top notch. She is a wonderful designer, with a great personality, and easy to work with. If you hire her and her firm, you will be pleased with your results.
